Changes vs Port

Roosy said in the presser there will definitely be changes going to Alice Springs on a 6 day break.

Jetta in for sure, the other changes will be interesting.

He said there would be 3-4 changes - Jetta and Tyson would be two, plus Roos said Trengove, Grimes, VDB and Dawes were all pushing for selection as well.

Very interesting to see what we do at the selection table this week.

Spencer in.

Max will definitely been in for a light week, given the 6 day turn around. Port's rucks aren't a big strength for them, so i'd have Pedersen providing the ruck relief over Spencer, as Pedo provides a lot more around the ground and is way more versatile than Spencer.

Jetta and Tyson come straight back. Michie's now had three games and hasn't really taken his chance in any of them, so I suspect he'll be out for Jetta. If Oliver doesn't come up from his corked thigh that might be the spot in the middle for Tyson.

I'd be bringing Pedersen straight back as the second ruck/forward option too if he's ready. I don't want to drop ANB or Newton after one game each but they may be in the frame. I'd be looking at Harmes too, despite the four goals.

jetta and tyson are the obvious ins.

lumumba, dawes, dunn, and spencer would be other chances you'd expect.

Dunn for mine along with Lumumba. Spencer would be interesting. Perhaps Spencer as well as we need another ruck. Tough but maybe 5 changes with the short break.

I think Max is buggered - his opponents are prepared to lose the tap to keep jumping into him relentlessly.

Spencer is strong and can absorb some of that pressure.

Port don't have a ruck and Gawn looks stuffed including his bandaged right hand of the last 2 weeks. Oliver also had a massive corkie and hardly played through the middle in the second half. I would give them both a rest.

In: Jetta, Tyson, Frost, Spencer

Out: Michie, Oliver, O-Mac, Gawn

Wouldnt drop max. Just give him some decent help for a game. No offence to Watts.

Yep Spencer or Pedo.

Yeah Max looks spent...won't at all be surprised if Spence is bought in to take maybe 30% ruck time if he is match fit enough !

Port don't have 1 ruckman

It doesn't matter - moving forward, the two ruckmen structure will become important as the second half of the season unfolds.

In;. Jetta, Tyson, Dawes, Salem, Trenners (maybe)

out: Wagner (rest), 3 -4 unlucky players

just not sure they will make 5 changes

Given Maxxy has been shouldering a lot of work for the team I wouldn't be against bringing Spencer in to given him a decent chop out. Also with rucks being somewhere Port are week in it could given Spencil some chance at gaining confidence. Rotate them between ruck, forward and bench.

I can't comment on who goes out but thinking about who's available (Tyson, Salem, Jetta, Pederson) and there's more putting up their hand at Casey (Trengove, Dawes, Grimes), it looks like more (good) selection headaches for the match committee.

Ins, either Pedersen or Dawes, probably Tyson, definitely Jetta. Could be Trengove's turn, but who do you drop?

Outs, probably Oliver (corkie with short turnaround and he's still in his first year), then ... ???

Port lost the hitouts this weekend by 71-15 yet only lost the clearances 45-36 and got within 8 points.

If Spencer was more mobile or multi-faceted then maybe but it would pretty much just be robbing us of another running player. Dawes or Pedo could potentially come in to provide a chop out as long as they don't make things too crowded inside 50 and provide some movement.

Jetta and Tyson clear ins. Michie and Hunt make way. Frost in for O Mac.

Salem another week in the seconds to build form and confidence. If not then someone will be unlucky to make way. Newton perhaps.

Tow ruckman in Darwin...

nahhhhhhhhhhh,

Jetta and Tyson in for Michie and Hunt.

Frost for Omac.

Why Hunt? Provides important dash off half-back.

IN

Jetta

Dunn

Tyson

Dawes

OUT

O Mac

ANB

OLIVER ( ONLY IF INJURED ) OR KENT, POSSIBLY MICHIE ( STIFF)

IN: Jetta, Dunn, Tyson

OUT: Michie, OMac, Hunt

Can't see ANB going out. Think Oliver may be rested due to travel, corky  and 6 day turnaround. Jetta and Tyson are musts. Dawes is a possibility as Gawn is tiring and Watts isn't sustainable as a back up ruckman. Hunt is due for a rest.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
