That takes Jones to about $12000 in dinky fines since taking over as captain. Anyone know where this money goes?

I hope there is a brown  paper bag lying around for him to step on.

The word 'thuggery' I had hoped would come across as tongue in cheek, I have posted more than once that i love how hard they are playing. We're on the same page.

It's great to see.

Yes i was quite impressed with Newton. He was quietly productive. Deserves another game

interesting selection this week

First look at Newton this year, he looks a completely different player and a solid man unit.  All hail Football department!

Newton certainly showed that he has begun to improve his tank and his disposal by foot is good too....

For Newton it means that he knows he is right on the cusp of selection, and with others also breathing down his neck (Salem, VDB, Trengove, Grimes etc) it means that he needs to keep up this terrific form so he is first pick the next time someone loses form or goes down with injury.

It's a great spot for us, as a club, to be in.

Watching a replay and noticed how good Ben Newton was. Looks to be a different player - leaner, more composed and seems to have gained a yard. Would be very unlucky to be dropped.

As I said in the early game day thread, you will be surprised at what Newton and ANB bring to this game. Glad to see Newton was able to deliver the surprises.

Coaches votes.  Can someone do a breakdown so we can work out if Leppa give Daniel Rich three votes.

Melbourne vs Brisbane Lions
8 Jesse Hogan (Melb)
8 Billy Stretch (Melb)
5 Tom Bugg (Melb)
3 Jeff Garlett (Melb)
3 Daniel Rich (BL)
2 Christian Petracca (Melb)
1 Clayton Oliver (Melb)

Can I just say, how exciting is that? Outside of Garlett, there are four MFC newbies who have played less than 50 games in the top 7. What an exciting future we have if we can keep them all together.

I would be surprised if Newton lost his spot after his effort this week and Roosy did indicate in his Presser that there would be a number of changes this week against the Power due to the six day turn around and travel time, etc. could be interesting. We have to get Max some relief and also shore up the back line - Go Dees

One of Garlett of Rich got a three and the other a 2 and a 1. No way of knowing which was which.

It goes like this.

Hogan and Stretch have a 4 and 4 and a 5 and 3. Bugg has the other 5 and oliver has a 1 and track a 2. What is left is a 1 a 2 and a 3.

By my reckoning Rich received votes from both coaches.  Billy Stretch and Jesse Hogan could be the other way round ie 5/3 and 4/4 respectively.  Interesting that Bugg got 5 from one coach and zip from the other...of course my reckoning could be wrong.

  Coach 1   Coach 2
Clayton Oliver   Daniel Rich
2    Daniel Rich   Christian Petracca
3   Jeff Garlett   Jesse Hogan
4    Billy Stretch   Billy Stretch
5    Jesse Hogan   Tom Bugg

Here Petraccatack. I made it so Leppa gave Rich 3. MFC votes in bold.

8 Jesse Hogan (Melb) 5/3

8 Billy Stretch (Melb) 4/4

5 Tom Bugg (Melb) 5

3 Daniel Rich (BL) 3

3 Jeff Garlett (Melb) 1/2

2 Christian Petracca (Melb) 2

1 Clayton Oliver (Melb) 1

I reckon he does it to gee everybody else up. I'd hope the club pays it back for him out the back door...

That's why I mentioned the figure since taking over as captain. Post-siren specialists as well - g' the boys up before the huddle. Noticed JV also got in on the act on the weekend with a big shove after the bell.

If it goes to the afl revenue and the players get that percentage of revenue they want, would that mean that in the future they essentually start paying for themselves?

Aside from the kindness and happiness the Fox Commentators had for Melbourne after they kicked their first four goals i think Newton will hold his spot and we will

go in with both Spence and Gawn.

I've said it before on here. When Jones gets into a scrap, we win. It fires the boys up and instills belief for them they can win. He did it a few times last year too, most memorably against Collingwood where he picked a fight with Pendles, and we won.

Hopefully the club helps him with the fines as it means we won!

I wonder if the club is allowed to help?

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

Many warned that this was a danger game and the Demons were totally outclassed all game by a young Eagles team at Optus Stadium in Perth as they were defeated by 35 points.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
