If he signs, he signs...

Full confidence in the club that they have given him every reason to sign.. If he goes then I believe we make sure we do very well out of it.

Good clubs are not defined by one player, nor do they dwell when someone leaves (Buddy as example)

Sorry, this comparison with 'good clubs' is so flawed, it's not funny - we're not there....yet!

Buddy left the Hawks after 3 premierships, numerous awards and achievements.

This club CANNOT let this once in a generation player just walk.

Not saying we are a good club yet... But I am just saying that we aspire to be a club that when a player turns their back on us, we don't drop our bundle...

I was one of the first to lose it when Scully left, but honestly the way some of us carried on, it was like the whole club was going to fold...

To be fair SPC, I don't think we were too far off it.

Yeah fair call... I guess I am just trying to highlight that we are in a better position now and have given Jess everything he has asked for to date. If he does decide to chase a huge contract elsewhere- then as club, we seek the best outcome and move on.

Wherever I lay my hat:

Interesting lyrics in this context:

Quote

Don't you know that I'm the type of man who is always on the roam
Wherever I lay my hat that's my home
Wherever I lay my hat, oh oh, that's my home, mm yeh
That's my home

And I like it that way
And I'm telling you that I don't mind coming home
You know I can't make it all alone, but sometimes that's the way, that's the way
I'm not saying
I'm not saying I don't love you
Just got to do what I want to do
That's what I want to do
I feel so cold, oh, I got to go
But I'm not saying
You don't mean nothing to me
I'm not saying, no, no, no
No - I just want my way
You're everything a man could want
But sometimes
Oh, I have to go my own way

I really thought his body language spoke volumes over the weekend.

I consulted the tea leaves and my interpretation is thus:

Up until a 3-4 weeks ago I think he may still have been of two minds. He struck me as though he was just playing footy.

For about a fortnight since  he looked more 'on' ... more 'Melbourne' , less robotic and more ' right, he WE go guys'

Only my gut talking , I think it's now...." to manager; get it done. "

We'll  see I guess ;)

I like your interpretation BZ. Although this could also be that he has finally come to a decision and the weight is off the shoulders a little. Let's hope it is us that's on the right side for a change.

I disagree to a point Jumbo. I think the performance this year shows that this club has turned things around so substantially that we are now looked upon as a reasonable prospect by any player/manager and the facilities/coaching and environment are almost as good as any in the AFL ATM outside of maybe the top 2 or 3 clubs and the giants (facility wise) like the Pies.

The players are certainly not holding back when asked this directly on media right now and the results are starting to show. Now we just need some more games into the better players and to build more depth/fill a few gaps. If we fill those few gaps and get another 40 - 60 games into many of the current list then i believe we are well on the way to being a consistant finals team in the next decade and a growing 'mid sized' club with 40,000 plus members.

IMO Melbourne is a far better place to live than Perth, lived half my life in both. If you weirdo's in Melbourne didn't push the house prices through the roof I'd move.

I might initiate a crowd funded campaign, "Get Ethan to Melbourne."

You can board at BBOs house for a while when you get here. Might have to squeeze between he and his missus at night... and maybe an alpaca or 12. But he does have a good wine collection, the best goon bags money can buy.

Just nitpicking in the context of this thread, but it was two premierships ... 2008 and 2013. By 2014 he'd joined Sydney.

I mean the other issue with Freo is that their only good young player in Lachie Neale sounds like he wants to come to Victoria, as per SEN a couple of weeks ago. This will leave Freo with pretty much nothing. I can't see this being about the WA sides' lists. This is about Jesse and his family. That's what it comes down to. I reckon we'll be alright.

While all this ridiculous chatter is going on let me add something just as ridiculous as this fits well with this post. Think Buddy and GWS. Where did he go? If Jesse wants to go back to Perth for family reasons, West Coast is a far more attractive proposition than Freo. And MFC would get a better player deal from WC than Freo if the Club accepted that Jesse did not want to stay. Think Judd to Carlton and what Carlton gave up. Admittedly Judd was older at the time than Jesse is now. It's all supposition anyway and watching Jesse play and his relationship with the other young guys at training, my take is he is going to sign a contract extension with us. We are on the up, up, up!

Buddy is different. He was part of a marquis player thing to an outpost  ( i.e Sydney ) when they needed an indentity player. No a same case scenario for mine.

What the bloody hell is the hysteria about Hogan's contract about? He is signed until 2017. 2017. 2017.

A hundred other star players would be out of contract in 2017 as well. I honestly can't believe how much rubbish is being talked in the media about him being out of contract when it's at the end of next year he's out of contract.

Jesus!

FWIW I would be giving him a 5-6 year deal right at this point in time.

Fremantle has fallen off the cliff and they'd have to sell crucial draft picks to their inevitable rebuild just to get Hogan in the door. They'd basically be auctioning off the draft picks they desperately need to draft quality A-Grade talent, just to secure a young key forward. Sound familiar? It would take multiple first round picks, using which they could just draft an A-grade midfielder and an A-grade forward as it is.

It makes no sense from Fremantle's ability to rebuild, it makes no sense for Jesse to leave us at this point and go back to a club starting a rebuild.

I'm from Melbourne and lived 5 years in Freo. I get the pull of both. What I don't get is the whole "home thing." Of course family's important, but there's a thing called skype nowadays and ya mum's gonna hug you as hard whether it's once a year or every day. He's a grown man and there's a world out there to grab by the throat and a life of premiership glory to write. Get it done big fella!

I can't argue with you on that one Jumbo. Only a premiership plus would see us reach such status. 2 or 3 would be very helpful also ^_^

Yes he is, but any club would need to know the intentions of seriously required player, well before the expiry of a current contract.  If a player stays, then all good.  If a player goes, then plan B has to be implemented and contingencies put in place.  This can take time, if plan B is required.

The family factor would not be enough for me to go home and play for Fremantle.

Funny the difference a year can make, 12 months ago Freo were undefeated premiership favourites, Nat Fyfe flying and though they had ageing stars i don't think anyone thought they'd fall away like they have.

Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
