Great little passage of play. Max King pushed off an opponent and took nice overhead mark on the wing. Turned quickly and saw Weed leading to the wing/ flank hotly pursued by his opponent. King delivered a 25-30m low dart pass that Weed took down low at his shins by getting both forearms under it and taking a diving chest mark. Great pass but even getter collect. Weeds showing his skills down low as well as overhead today. Unfortunately the next pass from Weed was a turnover, but after great teamwork from King and Weed.

Newton shines again!  Collect off a scrambled ball, had a good look for forwards, nice pass to Weed who was contested and the ball went past both untouched and rolled through for a goal.

29 minutes into the third and Dylan Buckley manufactures a goal for the Blues (not sure who kicked it off the ground). We've got in back in our 50 now to try and get that one back.

Not sure what to make of these beltings. Is the competition that lopsided? I can never help but wonder how this affects the development of our seconds players when they play against witches hats.

Doesn't hurt to play in winning sides and get some confidence.

You can only play against the opposition you are drawn against? Dons are 4th. Williamstown are 1st (we lost to them though), Collingwood are 9th, and Frankston are no longer the cellar dwellers that we beat. We are not doing too badly and it's not like we are against bad opposition. Cannot wait until we play some of the bottom teams.

If we beat Sandy easily next week, we have arrived and a serious chance for the flag.

It's a fair point but:

a) low pressure situations allow you to execute game plans exactly as planned,  with success (as long as the coaches enforce their strict adherence and the players aren't allowed to get sloppy); and

b) winning builds comraderie amongst the playing group and winning expectations as well. 

 

These things mean that when a player does play well and eventually goes up he a) knows exactly what to do and exactly how to play the role and b) he expects to keep winning.  He will need to adjust to the pace and pressure,  but that is easier when you are brimming with confidence.

They will get plenty of that as well.

I just love the way we seem to be developing our players now.

Our list is getting so much better each year, with good players not guaranteed a game.

Gee this competition for spots is a great thing

Newton has been very solid the last few weeks and is now dominating.  Another one lining up for a senior game

I guess that is what others said of us over recent years.

You can only beat those who come out to play against you.

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
