Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Didn't know where to put this..

Paul Amy

Reckon Melbourne has found a good 'un in Jayden Hunt. Quick, classy and had 26 touches for Casey on Sat night. Ripening into a very nice player.

From a fitness point of view trengove looked ahead of Petracca a couple of weeks ago.  It's a shame he didn't get a full game in, because he might have been a sneaky chance this week.

Brayshaw was BOG, so I see no reason why he won't come back in.  I doubt there'll be a cloud over his fitness with a performance like that.

Garlett will come in.

So I see two changes.

Obviously Vince and Matt Jones, Bugg and Wagner appear the most vulnerable, although I'd like Wagner to get another game.  it's also possible they swap Pedersen and Frost again.

He's pretty sore apparently, i don't think Bucks will be keen to let him anywhere near Jack Viney so i'm pretty certain he will play half back. in which case i hope Hogan and Frost are instructed to put him to ground ( fairly ) every chance they get.

I'd send Bugg to Treloar and try and limit his influence, outside him they don't have many match winners.

Oooh, didn't know he was sore. You're right if I was Bucks I wouldn't want him near Viney, especially considering what he did to Ablett Jnr in round 1 last year. I think someone even has the photo as their avatar here :D

I haven't read the thread but is there any merit in leaving both Pedersen and Frost out of the team?  Against the Saints the Collingwood defence was pulled apart after half time when both McCartin and Roo were off injured.  Neither Frost or Pedersen are up to it, it's why we swap them each week hoping for a miracle.  But it's the definition of idiocy, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Hogan and Watts to play forward, McDonald and Dunn back and a stop gap in the ruck when Max needs a rest.  Perhaps Hogan in the forward line and T Mac in the back line. Only then exposed if a goal is scored.  It's far from ideal but I think we may get more value out of a competent AFL footballer on the field than either Frost or Pedersen.

If that doesn't work then I'd bring in O Mac and fiddle around somehow - at least he can play.  Pedersen and Frost just aren't up to it IMO.

Can someone explain to me the hate on Matt this year? I know he has been a problem in the past but his run and spread has been fantastic this year. Hell i overheard crossy and misso at the airport after the game saying that he topped the K's run for the day. His gut running has been so good and he trys so hard to provide an option. I think he has earnt a bit of a run at it the next few weeks. I agree once CP5, brayshaw, ANB and such are all consistant AFL players then Matt will probably go out but right now i think he should be in. I know he turns it over occasionally but no more than Tmac and tyson.

After rewatching the game last night i agree Bugg is on thin ice but he was ok and wagner i think deserves another run he showed a bit, his chase down tackle was fantastic. Pedersen, Frost swap seems so obvious but i have a feeling it wont happen....

Let's face it, no matter who comes in or out, there's really no excuse to lose this game on the back of last week's performance.

We've seen what our guys are capable of now, and Collingwood are a rabble.

We just must win this game.

You're too right , last weeks effort must set the bar for the rest of he season. Collingwood are just no good.

Surely Bucks won't put Pendles on half back again like last week?

Without Vince to hold him (like last year, man that was great to watch), Pendles could go nuts in the middle.

Buckley strikes me as a very determined person with absolute belief in himself and his ideas. As such, I don't see him making switches to a strategy he will have been planning throughout the off-season. Of course, as circumstances change, so should his thinking, but I suspect his obstinacy will ultimately be his downfall.

Ok no i partially agree with you. We are on the improve and what we say on the weekend is the standard we aim for. However, we are still young and our performance will go up and down. Expect to see a few performances like that and even better but there will still be a few below that. If we play like that we will win more than we lose, unfortuantly we wont be able to do that every week. Hope we do it this week and ill cheer 'em on either way but have to be aware there will be a few drop offs thoughout the year. I hope we win but i dont think it is a must win. I think over the next 4 weeks 2 wins will be a good return for us. Any more is a bonus.

We don't have a lot of options...the best we have is to put pressure on their mids and not let Cloke get good supply which is what happened early last time.

Dunn might have had one good game on Hawkins but he has been spanked by good forwards in the past...I remember seeing Tex give him a hiding a few years back.

I don't think Frost has the footy nous to play on Cloke.

Whoever it is midfield & forward pressure is the key.

It's not so hard to understand is it Rjay - let opposition midfielders waltz into our forward half unpressured your defenders are going to get cleaned up more often than not.

sorry you just happened to be the last person i read say it so not just you i have seen others call for him to be dropped too. I meant "hate on" meaning i feel he has copped alot of unjust criticism from a number of people for his performance so far this year. So yeah, I didnt mean it as a direct attack on you specificly i just thought he has been playing pretty well and working pretty hard so far this season and deserves a bit more of a go.

I picked him in "my" round one team, so I was aware of his preseason form.  He's been much better this year, but as a player I presently rank 17-22 (and potentially lower) he will come under match committee scrutiny when changes are considered.  It's as simple as that.

I don't see him as a long-term premiership player, but as handy depth (when he's playing well).

And as you correctly point out, he'll struggle when Petracca and Trengove become permanent fixtures (as they will).

Hence why I think that he is probably a really good development coach. But not a strong game day coach. Similar to Hardwick, McCartney and to some extent Roos.

Just like Essendrug are.  Let's hope the players don't share these thoughts.

I just get the feeling that the performance against Essendon will drive the players to compete like they did on Sunday for the rest of the season.

The proof will be in the pudding though.

I believe one of the commentators on a recent Collingwood game mentioned Pendlebury appeared to be carrying some sort of rib injury/soreness and hence was used only sparingly in the midfield heat of battle.  Considering what they did during Jack Watts first game, I would hope we make sure the ribs get a good workout. Perhaps Kent can hit them a few times, he's a solid boy.

Yeah thats fair. Maybe it is time to start making those harder calls. It was easier a few years ago where effort always got a game. I also have him in simillar 17-25 bracket. on current form/fitness i have him 17-20 which means he is over a few at the minute. The thing i think he has given us alot of is spread. We have quite a few that are good getting out of the pack but not so many that spread quickly on the outside. Strech will get there i think but he is still a step or 2 off it IMO. Maybe ANB? im not sure. Looking at the bulldogs for example, their spread from players off the ball is what makes them seem so fast, because all our guys are in and under we struggle with the outlet. That is what makes us look so slow. Matt isnt particulary fast but he makes the team look it when he runs so hard off the ball to get into space.

Yes you are correct, Pendleburry has even stated that he is playing injured with sore ribs.

Our boys worked Pendlebury over in the win last season.  Still remember Viney, Vanders and Jonesy all getting their turn to smash him

Might be wise for him to take the week off if hes already carrying a rib problem

Not having a go at you, but if we used that as the criterion for selecting our team then no-one would've gotten a gig for the last decade!

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
