Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I agree with keeping him off air, but has he even been on air except for that one pre-training interview following the Saints NAB game? I don't think they're running around using him as a marketing tool in the media, no more than other young players.

He was on the footy show couple of weeks ago.

I can't remember when these were but the media things I remember are:

- a pre season press conf which didn't seem to have much purpose.

- media interview reacting to the Ox about run-up.  Why get into a media scrap?

- short interview on TFS promoting a sports store.  Other well known players were there - eg Rioli who could have taken the live cross.

- And I recall hearing him talk since but can't remember where about the Ox thing and Jesse saying it was just friendly banter.

Whether the club is deliberately making him 'the face' of the club I don't know but it is looking that way along with Jack Viney. They are both 21 trying to establish their games.  Yes, we are all hoping they will be our future stars and yes we need to sell memberships.  That is a lot of responsibility on young shoulders.  But in the meantime I think the club would do well to cut back the air time at least till we win a string of games and climb the ladder.

Otherwise we will have kids trying to defend poor performance which isn't their job.

I know many on here believe he'll be our future CHF with Weid to play deep forward potentially alongside Petracca. I'm in that camp too.

I wonder how Roos/Goodwin foresee next year's forward setup and I also wonder about our current setup.

Clearly the way we're delivering the ball to Hogan is absolutely rubbish and opposition sides are more aware of Hogan's dominance after last year. The forward-line, (along with many other areas) has struggled in the opening two rounds and I'm wondering if the coaches would release him further up the ground as early as this week to allow him to get involved in ways other than just marking..  Especially given that he is one of our better ball users. It would also change our forward setup potentially for the better. Perhaps start with Watts deeper alongside Pederson (who is a poor runner).

It's really hard to know how much of Roos' starting setup etc is to blame if any.

But I wouldn't mind seeing some positional changes at the first bounce this Sunday. Perhaps we could go back to assigning specific forwards for Dunn and McDonald to take for the entirety of the game rather than this rotating circus we've been seeing that simply isn't working.

Just a thought?

The Dees need to get tougher on players who are not pulling their weight in particular those that have more than two years experience. Dropping senior player for several weeks will send a message to anyone who slackens off. The captain should demand his coach set harsher penalties for slackers otherwise we should get someone who has the guts to do the job. Dropping Hogan would be foolish considering there is no decent options. To keep Hogan we need to win matches quick. The other problem we have is that we can't seem to turn ordinary players into good players.

How many years will Max King be on the rookie list...he was ok in NAB last year...time to give him an opportunity.

0 after this season, unfortunately for him it's make or break time.

So because he's been on the list for a few years means he deserves a run, regardless of form or ability?

I'm all for changing things up a little, but let's think it through.  Max King is far from ready and he would be a liability, at the moment, to the side rather than a positive contributor.

As Steve said above I'd like to see Hogan moved a bit further up the ground, especially early in the game, to get him involved and to build his confidence.  Could we then leave another tall up forward with Garlett to create a contest and put pressure on the backline?

Clearing out our forward 50 and giving them a chance to get the ball would be a start though.

Hogan last season tended to get into the game early with strong marks and goals. This season it hasn't happened as yet. Defenders are switched on to his threat from the beginning. Mixing  in general play early may be a good move.

Think it would be far better to wait for at least half a dozen games to be played in Casey's season before the "who's got no hope to make it" starts

The other thing I think we need to do better is open up the forward line, which makes it so much harder for Hogan to be double or triple teamed.

Anyone who was at the game on Saturday will have noticed that at every centre bounce Essendon only had 4 blokes inside 50 with the spare 2 playing as "2nd wingers" on each side. This gave Daniher all the space in the world to get one-out contests.

Hogan is going to win far more one-on-ones than he'll lose, but even he can't beat two or three.

Leave Garlett and Kennedy down there at his feet as their immediate opponents won't be tall enough to negate Jesse, but the other key forward should stay as far away from Hogan as possible.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
