Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot. Farewell Demonland and thanks for the memories

Good luck but I think your perspective will be so much more aligned with reality if you stop reading Demonland and simply check in occasionally with the media who for the most part still realise we're a 7 win/15 th placed team.

i can't believe the Posters on this site that continually slag off "experts" in the media that deliver anything but glowing comments on MFC.

The reality is we're in another slow rebuild after making more horrendous recruiting, coaching & managemnt decisions than any Club has in the last 50 years but the last 10 in particular.

We dont yet have any true Elite A Grade players and it is correct, we hardly have a player worthy of a top 50 list atm.

Kent, Tyson, McDonald, Vandenberg, etc who get massively overrated on this site are just average to good players.

My point is that by reading D'land too much to get your perspective, you are setting yourself up for major disappointment.

I don't think Essendon are as bad as the media give them credit. They have a very good coaching list of past coaches and there top up players where in the top 10 at there past clubs.

I thought this from day one but unfortunately the media Have been saying they will not win a game this year which is the reason why this lose hurts so much, they will win more then people think. The back half of the year is when they will struggle.

Don't lose faith yet, let's see how the boys bounce back next week. It is only round two you know.

I just see todays game as another (painful) bump in the road of a very slow rebuild... but for some reason I still feel we are heading in the right direction.

Once we get guys like Tracca, Weed and Trenners into the team and they are settled we will be much better.

I feel like I should be angrier but actually I am quite optimistic about the Goodwin takeover, I just hope it is brought forward.

Feel much the same. There is more talent to come in. We need better tactics, as do Fremantle. And we need more time, but as my only game live for the year (perhaps) I feel very let down with that performance. Though for two quarters the week before we were probably worse.

still and all

go Dees!!  I will watch the tube next week and sip the beer

It's just sport, same as posting on here, you have winners and losers, people who stand on the sidelines watching, people who abuse, some whose own feelings of inadequacy are patently demonstrated, I chat to the players about soccer, music, comedy, charity work and footy

Right with you that one Saty, it's just a sport.  A lot of people here need to get some serious perspective in their lives. Hell of a lot more important things going on in this world then a football club.

I love the Dees, I love footy. But I've lost a lot more in important thing in my life then to get hung up on football.

Well said GWD.    Tend to agree with you.  I have often thought I enjoyed supporting the Dees in all the bad times but it does seem worse now that I am aware of Demonland.  I love reading everyones posts, just like the OP, where I am from there are few dee fans so its great to be amongst fellow Dees supporters and undersatnd that I do not suffer alone.  Or celebrate alone.

But %^&* me!  Yesterdays output!

I drove 4 hours with my 7 year old to be at the game.  I thought surely I can put a smile on the little fellas face during the game.  But no.  Out strutted the Demons.  Embarrassed themselves and once again, us fans.  I am sick of the embarrassment.  And tired of the embarrassment.

That explains them having 128 more disposals, 71 more marks and 16 more tackles ?

The only thing that explains those discrepancies is effort, talent and structures/gameplan.

While some of our talent may be overrated, no-one will convince me that Essendon had more, so I'm left with effort and gameplan.

Our gameplan is a work in progress, but it was sound enough to beat a very talented young side in GWS.

This leaves me with effort.  Why our effort was abysmal in round 2 of the season is mystifying.  So I'm left blaming both the players and coaching group.  Someone needs to show leadership this week.

I wouldn't go quite as far as you - but my faith has certainly been rocked in a big way after today.  I stopped reading training reports a couple of years back because the only thing I can trust in are results.

This kills my vibe for football as a whole.  Then watching teams like Gold Coast and the Bulldogs play so well today with SPEED and SKILL .. I feel like we have so very little of that in our team that we can't possibly turn things around in a meaningful, sustained way.

I couldn't believe how good the Dogs were last night. They are SO FAR ahead of MFC in the skills department.I grew up in Dog land, I'm wondering if I can change the leopard spots I acquired while watching the Demons play like tossers during the 1958 grand final.

Yesterday was a disgrace. Whether essendon are better than people thought is irrelevant, half our boys didn't show up. People calling for us to re-sign blokes like Watts, Tyson & McDonald ahead of chasing Prestia & Hurley have no idea. They would've had a dip at least!!

As for the AFL, I agree, sick of the bs! And as long as you have a rules committee the rules will keep changing, as much to justify their existence as for any real need to 'fix' the game. Too many people making careers off the AFL & adding nothing positive to the game. Media saturation, lies, scandals, sweeping facts under the carpet, loyalty both to players & clubs out the window. All so the game can be a faster spectacle, and churn more money out of suckers like us!!! I could have had an incredible holiday house given the $$ we've given this club & this sport the last 15 years alone!!!

Stuff this, I'm going to the shooting range to 'meditate'

Dear Demonland,

I am not a regular poster but I have been religiously reading Demonland for several years now.

However, after watching (most of) the match against Essendon I’ve decided it is time to bid farewell to Demonland and take a break from watching football indefinitely. I have lost the enjoyment of following the game and club I have loved for the last 27 odd years.

The performance of our players against a club I despise so much (ever since their dirty tactics against our young players in the 2000 grand final) was nothing short of soul destroying. Of course there have been worse defeats than that of late, but after all the positivity around the club during the pre-season it is so deflating and incomprehensible to see the team play with so little spirit and coherency.

But that’s not the only reason. The state of the game and the management of the league has becoming a complete farce with the constant rule changes, draft manipulations, and unequal fixturing, not to mention the appallingly inconsistent decision-making of the AFL governing body. Watching clubs like Hawthorn, Geelong and Sydney consistently being able to top up their lists without dropping from contention is a complete farce and against the spirit of the game as far as I am concerned.

But before I sign off I wanted to say a big thank you to all those that contribute to this forum.

I have greatly enjoyed the incredible amount of passion and insightful input provided by the majority of posters. As someone who has been living overseas the last few years with limited opportunities to see the Dees play on the hallowed turf of the MCG I have found the forum to be a great resource. Particularly, the training reports which help keep the fires burning during the off season.

I hope you all continue to keep the passion going and I hope the club will (eventually) turn things around and become a finals team once again.

Ascobar

P.S. Shout outs to my favourite posters in Whispering Jack, Steve the Man, and Saty plus all the moderators and administrators for keeping the forum afloat.

gees mate, i saw Fitzroy whoop our ass by 200 points in the late 70's and have never once considered walking away from the club. Hope you rediscover the passion, all the best

The simple fact is, there is no 'material' reason for the Demons to have lost to Essendon. We had a much better group of players out there, fully capable of smashing the clearances, dominating the forward line, and breaking even in defence.

But it didn't happen because they thought it already had.

And then Paul Roos comes out and says 'the players got a big head'. Yeah? Just the players, eh?

20 weeks left to determine how Paul Roos is remembered by Melbourne. And... if he really buggers it up, he could drop into the 'Pagan/Malthouse' hole.

People will begin asking if a coach really is that big a deal, if three of the 'greats' all fall in a heap as soon as they are given a challenging situation to deal with.

But I also realise that it is only sport, not the most important thing in the world

I just let it go past me SWYL, I don't whinge about it

I was that angry yesterday I nearly smashed the tv to bits , the reason I didn't is because Iv already done it twice they had all there legends waving jackets we should've  bought the [censored] shovels and buried them .

Giants just beat Geelong by 13 points so we can't be that bad. Let's see how the rest of the season pans out.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
