Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Anyone notice how quiet Hogans voice went with the contract questions? Once he finished with that and started chatting footy  his voice got stronger again. I dont know what hes thinking but he is absolutely uncomfortable with that subject. it was very obvious. Maybe he just doesn't like discussing contracts

The reality is that Hogan has two years to go. He has said they will look at it at the end of this year. The club agrees. Hopefully it is done then. No point to worry now.

However, if at the end of this year, it is put off until the end of season 17 , I would be very worried.

At this time, enjoy season 2016.

Reading again what the Ox said, I would not be surprised if he is taking a cryptic swipe at Hogan. Strange that he would be talking monetary depreciation of Hogan's kicking  at this stage of the debate on Hogan's future intentions. Maybe he has heard rumours?  The haste that Hogan felt it necessary to have a press  conference sounds unusually defensive under the circumstances.

Perhaps this is what is known as managing the media.  The old axiom of any publicity is good publicity is apt in this case

If a guy runs in backwards, has a seizure, flips out and kicks at 69%, his technique is better than the guy who runs in upright keeps his eye on the ball and hits 60%.

If all we do is accept one traditional way of executing a skill, we shut out the growth in our sport.

What evidence is there that Hogan's technique is not better than others, is there anything other than it looks a bit funny??

I just wonder if another scribe or media footy legend had came out with the Ox's comments, would there have been a press conference?

I think JH is, for obvious reasons, getting more media attention anyway.  But I get the sense Ox knew exactly what he was doing, when he made the comments he did.  His comments came, knowing that soon after, SEN were going to have a MFC membership day.

I will start this by saying I'm about as far away from an expert as you can get, but the successful sportsmen and women who have to do repetitive tasks (shoot, throw, bowl, hit) they all talk about muscle memory and that every one of their actions is exactly the same and so the body sort of goes into autopilot.

Jesse's technique and run up seems to change every shot for goal, and he missed some real sitters last year. Now yes his accuracy isn't bad, but it could certainly be better. Further to that he doesn't seem to get much penetration on his kicks, anything above 40-43m out he seems to really have to hoof it. The Ox went overboard with his description and frankly it was a cheap attempt to get the headline to make his show more relevant. But he wasn't totally wrong and I think the ultimate point is that it isn't an area he's as fluid in as others and it therefor be something he should work on/ask for help. For all we know he already has though.

I thought they missed the obvious marketing opportunity to set up a goal kicking shoot out between Hoges and The Ox at the G or at Gosch's after training for the TV news and in time for today's membership drive. I am sure the Ox would have been up for a bit of fun and attention.

The trouble would come if Ox won after being so long out. Could happen

I reckon these days 99% of it is done by the managers anyways, Jesse really just says what he wants to do, i wouldn't be at all surprised if he was just very aware of the fact what ever he said would be heavily read into and probably end up on top of an article and all over the news,  can't just be as simple as waiting for now.

Accuracy is so much more of a big deal for key forwards these days because they get far fewer opportunities. Like Hogan had maybe five shots at goal in the last game. Unlike when Jackovich played and could kick a lazy 8.7 and a few out of bounds before 3/4 time and 2nd tier forwards were bagging  70 plus goals for a full season. The pressure is on to nail goals especially within 30-40 metre range at favourable angles. I imagine  there will be a lot of pressure on him in round one to turn a positive balance sheet.

If he had kicked 5.5 instead of 2.2, not much would have been said. Only praise.

Can't believe you think it was Hogan's idea to have the pre-training interview.

When asked about his contract, he looked to the left but his right eye didn't move. I don't want to over analyse this press conference but I think he's off to Fremantle.

however....the press conference was at AAMI and the stage was on a north/south positioning with Jesse facing east/west - if his left eye moved but right eye didn't by my reckoning he is off to play for the Doveton Eagles.

Strange comment. If "another scribe or media footy legend" had called it "disgraceful" instead of "concerning", and linked it to his contract, then the club definitely would have responded in one way or another. And any club response is better to come from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

Schwarz was the only one to go in that hard on Jesse, so they couldn't just let it slide, and I think the club could have gone in a lot harder on Schwarz, but they preferred the "soft" approach, which was probably wise. Has Schwarz explained why he linked it to Jesse's contract?

It wasn't just that the Ox raised the issue for discussion - it was raised by just about every commentator, and most brushed it off as an off-day; none of the others linked it to his contract. It was the inappropriate & unnecessary & loaded terms Schwarz used, as well as the fact that he's a former great from the same club.

Like I said, all it means o me is that we know we have a marquee player now because this is the type of over-saturation that occurs when you have one. Even the club trotting him out for a press conference is just them capitalising on the publicity and putting us and Jesse in the spotlight.

Ethan, you'd be the person who came up notion that scratching your left nut whilst driving is equivalent to driving with a blood alcohol content of .073, or that when he touched his left ear lobe he was lying or that because I've just had 3 glasses of Shiraz, I'm talking nonsense. Perhaps he's one of the 1.4% of the population with the ability to do what you described and it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference and there's nothing for us to worry about. I hope that last thing is correct.

The fact that Ox brought up money tells me that he's heard Jesse is going, going or gone.

I recall him doing similar to Scully, but not to anyone else in our colours.

The positive thing is is that he probably hasn't heard the rumour from the club, we're pretty watertight under PJ, Bartlett and Roos, and that it might just be recycled media [censored].

I find it hard to believe Jesse has decided, with two years to run on his contract, that he wants to return west and that Ox has knowledge on this. Could be wrong though.

Yeah I don't disagree, I just think Ox is an emotive person and has run with what he's heard.

My thoughts are that Hogan is as likely to leave as he is to say. He's a relaxed guy who probably isn't thinking too concretely about two years down the line.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
