This is pretty reminiscent to last weeks game.

Sloppy and poor skills early before the Dee's rebounded in the second half which I'm fully expecting to happen again today.

Jack Watts has been really good the last 2 weeks, lets hope its finally clicked for him.

Nice to hear the commentators cracking jokes over potential injuries. Only when Melbourne are playing.

This commentary team is actually worse than last week's.

Doesn't feel like it whatsoever, but we kept the Bulldogs goalless that quarter.

Watts will be a frustrating player til the day he hangs up his boots. Already seen the best and worst of him in this game. Definitely looking stronger in marking contests overall though which is a positive sign.

Well we kept them goalless which is something, and we were a bit better going forward.  It's against half a side so I'd love to see us come out and run over the top of them in second half but I'm not getting carried away.

I don't see it as something to worry about though.  We'll be right.

He still doesn't quite go hard enough.

He's better no doubt, he still just looks like he can't get out of third gear.

Agree, but today he's taken marks, tackled and kicked goals.

Thats what we want from him even if doesn't look like he's gotten out 3rd gear.

Still haven't kicked a goal kicking into the wind. This could get ugly in the second half.

Or not.

You can see the new team plan of moving the ball quickly, but you need players who can execute whilst under pressure, because that type of game promotes that sort of self pressure, unfortunately too many times the player on the end of the chain doesn't have the evasive skills and foot skills to hit a target. Yes I'm looking at you Jack Grimes!

Disposals evened up a bit that qtr, because of the wind, moving forward needs different approaches depending on which end IMO.

Watts will make mistakes but is making chances in the forward half unlike others. We looked better as soon as the young dogs started to tire and we had room to dispose without pressure. The first quarter though showed how far we have to go as a lot could not think through the best decision when faced with multiple players pressuring them. Harmes, Hunt and Kent need to get more involved.

Frost with 1 handball, 1 tackle and 0 hit outs.

I'll be shocked if he's named round 1.

Viney 2 kicks 12 HP. Need to get more damaging

I'd be looking at several others first on today's performance.

One thing the Dogs did well in the first half was their pressure around the contest.  Gawn won plenty of HO but each time we got our hands on it we are almost tackled instantly.  We haven't had a great deal of room to move.

Great to see Tommy Bugg with 16 touches already. Led the tackle count in NAB 1. Is willing himself into games.

Frost is lost. He's not an onballer or a forward. Apparently Oliver can kick. Pederson was outrun, out-thought and out muscled by an 18 year old. He ain't the answer up forward either. Tom McDonald I think is.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
