Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Daisy telling the AFL that she will only be playing for us!!!

Good one Daisy.

Melbourne and the Bulldogs should be making some demands to the AFL about this comp.

Fixtures,TV rights etc should favour the foundation teams who had the vision.

Correct!

It seems that Coll and Carl have already filed their claim to play the Inaugural Opening Game as a special fixture! http://www.theage.com.au/sport/old-rivals-carlton-and-collingwood-want-to-open-womens-season-at-the-mcg-20160615-gpjx6d.html (Of course, then keep it as the Opening Round Blockbuster, forever more).  A month ago Eddie was proposing a Coll vs Rich opening blockbuster but the latter missed out on a licence. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/richmond-to-play-collingwood-on-australia-day-to-launch-womens-league-20160429-goicvp.html

Eddie says: Traditional rivals (apparently)!  Big Collingwood anniversary year, (apparently)! Two Big clubs, Big crowds, (apparently)!  Last time I looked Eddie's 75,000 members stopped going to their AFL games, even home, daylight games at the G!  And Carl have an exceptionally low rate of female members, about 30% well below the goal of 50%.  Not really a convincing case for the Inaugural Opening Round game!!

Lets hope you are right and PJ and Gordon get in Gil's ear to reward MFC and WBFC for the vision and years of investment.  And just for once for the AFL do the right thing!

I've watched 2 of the Dees v Bulldogs women's games and that's enough for me to say that I can't wait to watch the season proper.

There is one massive thing they have to fix though - the commentary. It was woeful in both games I watched, with the announcers struggling to name the players. The audience will rely on them even more than in the men's game because we are unfamiliar with the vast majority of them. The commentators better do their homework and bring their A-game and not treat it as a sideshow.

Having said that, given the quality of some of the commentary on the men's games, there might be little hope of that. If BT gets the gig we're all doomed. I shudder to think about the garbage he'll come out with commentating on women's sport given his banality with the men.

To those condescending half the population - they are also half of the AFL's audience and contribute to your club and to your game.

On point.

Agree. If it weren't for these two clubs making serious inroads, this would not be getting off the ground.

I think the introduction of this league shows more than anything I have seen for a long time how the MFC is changing. The sort of stand taken by Daisey Pearse  reminds me of the ruthless attitude of Elliot's Carlton , and the early days of Eddie's Magpies. Totally uncompromising, and totally ruthless. Also, the leading role we and the Dogs have played in this innovation indicates we are not only going to be ruthless, but we are also going to show a willingness to embrace innovation and risk taking.

All power to the senior management and the Board, and of course those courageous and extremely talented women who have made this happen, as well as some of the senior players like Jack Grimes who has played a key role as a skills adviser for the team.

We all should be extremely proud of this.

I gotta say, my admiration for Daisey Pearce is right up there with Nate Jones. She really loves pulling on the Red and Blue, and given she is the most marketable player in the womens league the club should be really proud that she's so dedicated to staying a Demon.

I also agree that the idea of Collingwood and Carlton getting the first official fixture for points is sickening and wrong. These guys have joined this party after us and the Bulldogs (but us even more so) have laid all the foundations and put more into it than anyone to make this a reality. At worst it should be us vs Pies but I really think the right thing to do is to make the first official points game Melbourne vs Dogs.

The opening game must be played by the traditional rivals.

Melbourne & the Doggies

The only womens traditional rivals in the competition, how can Eddie talk about rivals when his team is yet to play any sort of game...

Full Definition of chauvinism

  1. 1:  excessive or blind patriotism — compare jingoism

  2. 2:  undue partiality or attachment to a group or place to which one belongs or has belonged

  3. 3:  an attitude of superiority toward members of the opposite sex; also  :  behavior expressive of such an attitude

Number 2 could apply to all demonlanders with respect to MFC!

It might. But it need not have any chauvinistic associated qualities.

Sounds like Gil is not prepared to take Daisy on!  He just said:  "while it is not her decision, I would be very surprised if she doesn't play for Melbourne!

For once the AFL's worry about 'brand damage' has worked in our favour. A public stand-off would have been interesting...I reckon she could have stared Gil down if he had taken her on!!

Now they need to back this up with fixturing the Bulldogs and Demons for the Inaugural Opening Game.

Daisy is guest-hosting the pre-game Ch 7 telelcast.  Hamish announced she would be wearing #31.  To which Daisy replied (grinning) while nothing is cast in stone she thought she would be playing for the Dees and...

She is amazing.  Slid straight into the role of guest-host as if she has been on prime time TV all her life.  She is a terrific ambassador for our club, all gender considerations aside.

I was under the impression that each team was going to be able to nominate its marquee players, then a draft would be held for the leftover players.

When did this change?

Still the case.  Daisy is one of our two nominated marquee players.

Then why the strange comments from Dil? And why was she saying that she would consider sitting out?

Does "nominated" simply mean that we ask, but the afl gets to approve/veto?

It was yesterday that Daisy said she would consider hanging up her boots if she couldn't play for the Dees.  Gritty lady!!

Later on Gil says he would be very surprised if she didn't get to play for the Dees.

Not sure if 'nominated' marquee player means AFL has to approve...maybe that is why Daisy came out and said she only wanted to play for the Dees...a warning shot across Gil's bow, so to speak.

Given the Ch 7 pre-game banter it seems a foregone conclusion she will be playing as a Demon.

WOW!

I was really upset last week to read Freo had poached our women's coach, Michelle Cowan.

I wondered whether we would consider one of our other coaches taking on the job.  I never dreamt it could be Roos.

Lots of advantages:

-premiership coach

-knows the club

-clearly and genuinely supportive of the women's game

-will help attract other women players to the club

-will still be at the club to input from time to time

Would be over the moon if Roos was the women's team coach.

wouldn't be much overlap given the short duration and time of year for women's competition. suspect roosy would be in the us most of winter

Dil will be looking to get the highest profile player into the highest profile team. He would do what ever he could to have her where he wants her, which may not be where she wants to be.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
