Isn’t it great after jealously watching Cats, Pies, Hawks, Tiges, Blues father sons shining on the field it looks like it is going to be finally our turn to reap the benefits of our former stars. We now have Woey, Brownie and Rigoni and Kalani looks to be an absolute Jet in 2025 plus Aaron Davies lad Marley is moving to Melbourne to finish his education And Jeff has two more boys coming through. Can you really believe it, not that you can count on all making the cut but still very exciting for MFC supporters.

Plus the youngest Brown 14 years old and with the Chargers under 16s this coming season. Evidently quite talented at this stage.

We missed the other brother as he is a talented 195cm soccer player.

Callum Twomey has mentioned in the latest episode of Gettable (from the 29:56 mark) that Kalani White has a "decision to make" between us and the Gold Coast Suns. He can nominate for either team.

He is eligible for next years draft.

With their start this year, the Suns would be looking increasingly tempting 🤨

So after all these years he’s going to chose GC?

He's never suggested so. In fact he's always hinted at the f/s route.

It just happens that under AFL rules he is eligible for 2 clubs under different categories.

This is nothing new ... been known for quite a few years.

The White family are still massive Dees fans... I'd be pretty surprised if he decided to go to the GC.

I guess that decision would be more if he really wanted to stay up there, but still think the lure of playing for Melbourne will outweigh that.

Wait for the inevitable AFL last minute rule change that, having set up Collingwood Geelong and Carlton with multiple FS, we find it harder it to draft our FS - like the academy change that denied us Mac (though I am not so sure that I am as peed off as I was at the time).

MFCSS kicking in here.

Seriously? They have sooo much talent even from a host of first rounders this year, the under 16 national team is peppered with elite talent tied to the gold coast, so they will get yet another massive draft haul in a year or two. seriously how much can they get?

It isn't right. I remember Blakey had two teams he could go (North and Lions?) as F/S to but the swans somehow end up with an elite player. My goodness.

Kalani does live up on the Gold Coast doesn’t he? Or in Brisbane at least.

Is he actually any good though? I have read mixed reports as to whether he’s touted as a top end talent, or likely to go later in the draft (or even rookie draft).

He was an  All Australian at Under 16 level last year so he is more than "any good".

He can play at his father's old club and has the opportunity of learning ruck craft at Melbourne under Max Gawn.

Is there anything else that he needs to know?

I swear I remember hearing an interview with Jeff White saying Kalani couldn’t wait to be given the opportunity to play for the Dees, that’s he’s a massive fan. Wasn’t there a similar conversation being had about Jack Viney as to whether he would nominate for F/S? How’d that turn out.

He and his Dad have been guests of the Dees a few times. Loves the Dees. I am pretty sure he will pick us.

Jeff also has twin boys probably around 12/13 years old or so. One was selected for the State Team and the other picked up a B & F last season. So i would say Jason and the team are doing all the right things.

I have a peek at Jeff White's X account from time to time. Started a Ruck Tuition business called First Use which features on his account X frequently. Dees get loads of mentions.

Last season Kaliani got quite a few mentions.

Melbourne have been in his ear for about 4 years now, and he's often in the rooms with Gawn.

How could you pass up the chance to learn from one of the all time great ruckman and play at the MCG in front of a big crowd for the club your father played for... when the alternative is playing for the Gold Coast Suns

Would be shocked if he picked the academy route over the F/S.

He'll be a demon and looks a good talent with a lot of passion for the game and the club. If he picks Gold Coast over us I'll eat my own face.

Yeah they got a pretty decent ruckman as well, who is probably ahead of him that he'd have to compete with. I think he has a clearer run at it with MFC - plus the opp to learn from arguably the best ruckman of all time.

I know what i'd chose, but some may say I'm a little biased.

Fortunately Gold Coast have just stocked up with Ethan Read and Jed Walter to go with their existing bundle of Mac Andrew, Ben King, Jack Lukosius, and Charlie Ballard. That's a lot of quality tall timber aged 18-24, never mind the veterans!

Clearly Kalani will be much better served coming to the Demons where he will be an appreciated and valuable contributor to an early-career premiership.

Blakey actually had 3 teams he could go to. Might not happen again. His father played over 100 games for Roos and Lions and he grew up in Sydney and went the whole way through the Sydney Academy from the earliest age. That happened because his father was an Assistant at the Swans for that whole period. If he had moved to another team in a different State he wouldn't have stayed at the Academy and wouldn't have been eligible for them.

Definitely the Academy working as intended there.

No.. he’s just got a choice to make by circumstance and he’ll choose us, he’s a demon mad kid who’s supported us his entire life and will make use of the GC academy benefits all he can while he can!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
