Surprised that Dawes said:  "I'm out of contract at the end of the year, but I'm sure that'll take care of itself,"

He sounds confident!  I truly hope the club is not thinking the same!!!

I'm not sure I could handle having him on our list, even for a 1 year base pay contract.  Even if he gets back on the park in a few months, he has a chronic injury and he keeps breaking down and I just think there are better options with our current list.

We need to build a forward line that can become a consistent, cohesive unit and a player who regular breaks down doesn't fit into that.

but it will....take care of itself.   If hes injured again he'll be a fulltime student...see , taken care of

Since the software upgrade? we have had continual software glitches. Am I the only one getting sick of fighting dodgy software?

Wait 55 seconds..........................why 59 too may?     Sinking Ship - This implementation is going really well!!!!

As much as I don't rate Dawes his leadership and education for the likes of Weidema and Hulett would be handy.

Rookie list option maybe?

BB has nailed it -  what happens this year will basically dictate what happens next year.

He will either get his body right, be serviceable and get a year on his contract. If he keeps breaking down as he is now he will not go around next year.

I would like to see us consider another option.

i know he kicked badly v Essendon but I thought Tom McDonald looked good on the forward line. If he played CHF the ball would be retained on the forward line. Of course Watts should be able to achieve this but he will always be peripheral. McDonald could do some ruck work on the forward line, in much the same manner as Shwarz did very successfully.

if Frost us a natural backman, isn't this worth considering?

And do remember, our best win last year occurred when both Spencer and Gawne played--and caused great grief to the Cats

I think so Farmer,  but first half of season is imperative we get some winning momentum,  so I wouldn't switch TMac & Frost in the key posts til the half season mark. by which time we will have settled into our area of the competition.

Back end of the season is my preference to let Frost to start learning the CHB role,,,  & who knows, maybe Weideman may, (or may not) be demanding games? he could play a FPocket or back pocket role as he eases into AFL as well.?

Imagine how Dawes must feel if a 55 second delay is all it takes for ManDee to flip out in rather amusing fashion. (Sorry ManDee - I feel your pain)

Yes he looked in trouble in Maroochydore and I think he will struggle unfortunately. Chris is a great guy and very popular bloke. Disappointing that the injury is recurring and not responding to treatment. Internally the club is worried about his ability to deliver 22 rounds of footy. We need another key tall aside from Jesse H.

As Chris has shown, 12-15 games may be the target for the season. Expect Sam Frost to be groomed for the CHF role ...albeit the Weideman/Hogan combo is the goal for 2018 and beyond.

Out of contract, out of the leadership group and seemingly struggling to stay injury free for long enough to build any form.

unfortunately i think there is a genuine possibility Dawesy may not be on an AFL list in 2017

What you still think there is a possibility he will be on a list?

his football career at AFL level is all but over. Perhaps a few games in the second half of the year.

He'll get a handful of games this year. Who knows, might surprise us all, hope so. But it seems likely he's biding time and will struggle. Pretty obvious really. Disappointing experience overall.

Young team, long season, especially if we're pushing to make the 8.

Get him cherry ripe, he'll be an asset fully fit as we hit the second half of the season.

In all seriousness, whilst he's out of action with the calf, is it possible to have him stand in a fixed position (no calf work) and someone kick or throw a ball at him? I'm suggesting some catching practice wouldn't go astray.

I get he does a lot for the club leadership-wise, and perhaps muscle-wise on-field. I love him because he's wearing the red and blue, but for mine his calves ain't the problem.

I rate him as an educator and as a leader, however, Cam Pedersen is all the Chris Dawes we need.
Cam has shown this pre-season that he is on track for his best season with us, if he keeps up his form, leadership and intensity, I don't think Dawes will be given much of a chance.
Which is great!, to be spoilt for choice is always better than to have a forced hand, I can see Dawes starting off the bench at times this year but don't see him walking into the side like past years if Pedersen stays true.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
