Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Essendon has a better chance of playing finals than Melbourne

We need to start coming up with excuses for the club should we loose, we can't honestly expect the players to take responsibility. I think it's fair to say we've overplayed the "under developed" or debuted too early card". I think the club should run with something along the lines of "we were unable to do a proper opposition analysis due to the nature of Essendons list, they've only been together for such a short time but they've gelled together really well and are a highly unpredictable side".

Some of you lot need to get off the Estrogen ffs.

Essendon 2016: a nouveau fusion of journeymen dad's army types who'll be mixing it up with some wet behind the ears kiddies holding their hands.

Whilst I expect Essendon to come our all guns firing Im not sure those nerfs are going to do a lot of harm to anyone.

They havent even finalised a list..and we're into feb !!  Those old heads whilst capable footballers are at the END of their careers and their legs wont hold out for the season.  Theyll be nursing them through this year and if they get hit with injuries (as is more likely) they'll soon run out of depth.

Melbourne is on the rise. Essendon is stalled at the end of the runway.

Grow some  folks !!

Seriously,  the game is 2 months away and we're are already trying to psych ourselves out of it.  There is no reason for negativity in February.

This anxiety around melb dropping games it should win is at the heart of our mindset problems as a club and a supporter base and is both infectious and paralysing. I've been just as guilty of this kind of thinking before.  The facts are we have everything to be positive about this season and they have everything to be concerned about.

If the players bring the required effort then on ability we will win and win easily.  But we fear the players won't turn up or we worry about what might happen if we should lose, we don't want to seem confident or positive and fear the embarrassment if we lose and look stupid... and so it becomes a self fulfiling prophesy.

I'm not saying we should be more arrogant , but just back ourselves in and let the confidence build with an exciting young side.

I'm too young to know but I doubt this kind of thinking would have existed in the swooper northey days

All good points well made.

However you mention you are young. After 40 years of following the dees no loss would come as a surprise to me. None.

I remember all the ludicrous over optimistic posts on here the week before our most recent humiliating loss against Essendon. A 60, 80 or a 100 point win was thrown about everywhere.  All it is going to take for them to beat us in round two irrespective of who they field is going to come down to if THEY want to win the game more than us. That is al it takes. When that ingredient comes into play we turn into spineless jellyfish no matter the opposition.  No amount of positive thinking and support from us fans will make any difference unless there is a drastic change  of mindset by the players from last season.

In everyone's head, we'll already have lost that R2 game. The topups are just so stupid. Why couldn't we be drug cheats in 2012 and get Kelly and Stokes? It's not that bad a deal to be honest, when you think of how many of our players have gone from that period. Yes, unfortunately it'd mean no Nathan Jones unless he's afraid of needles.

The EFC players that were instrumental in their 2015 win against us will still be there:  Daniher, Goddard, Baguley and to a lesser extent Zacharakis.  The only one that really played well that day that is missing is Hurley.  As adec said they wanted the win more.

Look at the list of their suspended 12.  Only half were regular best 22.  Many of the 12 were out injured last year.  EFC will put in some decent performances in 2016.

A few teams will get burnt for underestimating them.   I pray we are not one of them.

No room for complacency.

We have no right to complacency in any game next season.

Anything less than 88 Quarters of desperate accountable football means that Goodwin is not ready to coach.

Round 2 must be a solid win.young hungry kids against a bunch of used hacks

Harsh call on Goodwin, especially when there's a guy on the list who very much loves the outside ball and not putting his body on the line. He tends to get games more often than not and actually had to drop himself last year.

In that last quarter when we lost to them last year, we were running rings around them in a way I had not seen for years. We were doing whatever we wanted, the problem was that we wanted to kick a lot of points instead of goals.

I think some of the players would be pretty nervous, but I am confident (as can be) that we will win. I'm hoping for 8-12 wins this year, but I am really hoping for no complete fade out smashings of old.

If Goodwin wants the job the soft quarters with the head down attitude have to be killed off this year.

Preperation...

Well I'm not sure what to say, that wasn't my intention. I've had one day off in three weeks, 12-14 hours a day....I'm wrecked, the occasional spelling mistake is bound to creep in. I thought my point was valid, misspelt or not.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
