This time of year you have the variable of when was our first pre-season match.  You expect a little spike then, plus from memory our Family day was very early last year, I reckon it could have been early Feb.

The AFL should rank on Revenue from Memberships rather than membership numbers.  If that was the case West Coast and Adelaide would rank 1 and 2, the micky mouse membership numbers that Richmond/Collingwood and Hawthorn throw up mean nothing.

Family Day is on Feb 28: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-02-17/family-day-at-luna-park Last year it was in early March.

The revenue for Rich/Coll/Haw is massive as a result of high membership numbers.  On average a member is worth about $200.  Those clubs get an extra 35,000+ members ie $7 million!!  Not only that they also get heeps more revenue from members buying merchandising etc.  There is further spin offs as they attract more sponsorship $$ who can market to club members.

Membership numbers are critical for financial well being and to provide facilities for players.  I heard to day that facilities is one of the top drawcards for FA's.  Needless to say we need every member we can get.

Not that its made much of a difference in the past, but with the new AFL ticket prices, and us putting ALL of our games into the premium price bracket (along with Hawthorn) if you attend 7-10 games are year, it'd be cheaper to grab a mid range membership package through the club than to go at the mercy of the variable ticketing system...

Sorry as a MFC member I am not sure what the term Wins actually means.

its a strange concept DF. Bascially its when, at the end of the game, you finish with more points for. And , instead of  just listening to someone else's club song you actually sing your own. At least I think you still do that?  Also, Instead of going to fooy to  look for the just potential in players you keep one on the scoreboard too. Takes some time to get used to occaisonally looking in another spot. Anyway, Im no scholar and no  history student,  someone who's studied the term may know better.... but  Its all I can really remember now.

Yes I agree dc If my house value had doubled in the last four years it would be on the market right now.

Just had a quick look around the clubs

Club                       Members  listed @ 03/02/16

Hawthorn                              63,311

Richmond                             57,757

West Coast                          55,186

Port Adelaide                       53,402

Essendon                            45,730

Geelong                               42,336

Carlton                                  34,604

North Melbourne                 29,568

St Kilda                                 28,243

Melbourne                            28,013

Western Bulldogs                24,643

Brisbane                               15,709

Gold Coast                             8,948

GWS                                       8,012

Numbers not listed – C’wood, Sydney, Adelaide & Fremantle

You've got to admire Richmond fans. Hawthorn on the other hand, their supporters tend to stay away from games that are basically a walkover.

GC and GWS continue to be an embarrassment to the competition of course

We were tracking pretty much the same as them at 3 Feb. since then we've dried up while they've continued to track like I thought we would. Wonder what's going on. Maybe they've had their fan day already.

I rang the club last Friday week, early afternoon to renew a couple of junior memberships. I was told the Membership team was at a 'seminar' and to leave my details and they would phone me back. I still haven't heard from them (as far as I can ascertain) so perhaps the Friday afternoon 'seminar' was a 5 day one...

Anyway, I will give them a call today so the membership should jump by 2...

Could be right there Mp as total ticked over a little more - today it is 29,022.  (26,639 at same time last year).

Lets hope there are heaps more on someone's desk and we can at least keep up with the likes of Saints and North

All good. They are both signed up now. MFC called and we did it quickly and easily over the phone. Always going to renew, but I want to know my club are on the ball for memberships and follow up enquiries.  We need to be efficient in this area, given we can't afford to lose too many.

They have had a NAB game with the chance to sell more.

Hawks would have to add to their yellow and brown colours. Perhaps orange - for the carrot.

From afar.

The further the better. I've been attending the footy for half a century. Over that time I have felt more uncomfortable (ie, fearful for my personal safety) when among Richmond supporters than I have been when among supporters of any other club.

Actually, never went to Windy Hill.

And just for balance, the ground which I thought was the friendliest (ie, the attitude of the supporters was most friendly) was Glenferrie Oval.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
