If Trenners came back at the peak of his previous powers (not projected potential) who would he replace from the current best 22 and in what position (taking into consideration that some of the best 22 are there on projected potential)?

Id see him as in the mix for a forward pocket or HFF. Maybe not 1st choice but if Garlett or Watts are unavailable, I can see Jack as a medium smart thinking leading forward, like Delidio or Bartel. He is/was good overhead.

He has missed 2 plus years out!

Name any other player that has had such an extensive time out that has come back?

Look he was reasonably good early, but in all honesty given his injuries and the pace of the game , can anyone really see him forcing a place in this current side?? And if so what position would he play?? In front of Who??

At 90% of his best - Grimes,  Harmes, Kennedy, Bugg, etc ......

Optimistic that Jack can make his way back. Naturally has good stamina; the new interchange cap makes this attribute even more important. Can see him playing as a utility, much like Jimmy Bartel does for the Cats. Who would he replace? Would be competing for just about every role on the park except the spine and ruck positions.

Let's not forget that in 2014, when crocked, he still managed 20+ disposals. The kid knows how to play footy.

he's a footballer first, athelete +++

just needs to be fit & robust.  the type that would make coach Roosy drool.

lets hope he can find it again.

I know he likes a goal but what about a role off half back for Jack as well? It's no secret that our ball users in the backline are pretty average, if Jack still has that great disposal on him he could be quite valuable as someone to bring the ball out with class. He and Salem could potentially swap between the two areas.

My only concern would be his defensive capabilities.

I would have thought defensive capabilities were quite important if a player is to play a defensive role....

My concern being whether he has them or not. :P Jack is very much an unknown quantity at the moment.

Still to be answered! Where would he play and who would he replace??

Grimes shouldn't get a game for starters, Harmes Kennedy, Bugg, right now are the future and much better! Probably quicker as well!

Would prefer any of these ex Grimes to get a game at present!

Absolutely. He hasn't played anything competitive for over 2 years and some people in here have him best 22. It's a fairy story

i wish him well but Top Line AFL is still a long way down the track

It's a silly question.

As Trengove's form at Casey unfolds over a 4-6 week period we'll be far better equipped to provide an answer.

Robbie Gray,

Max Gawn,

Daniel Menzel ( granted not long back but certainly not lost any ability )

and if he's fit and firing he's head of Grimes, Matt jones, Bugg, Harmes

play as a high half forward rotating through the midfield, maybe a bit off half back in the daniel cross mold as he isn't quick, but smart, good overhead and uses it well.

Best 22 is a moot point because there are always injuries - Brayshaw and VDB are out at the moment, but it will be someone else some other time.  I have Trengove at his best ahead of 6 players in the NAB3 24 ahead of Kent, Grimes, Bugg, Kennedy, Harmes, M.Jones  - so at his best that puts him clearly in for me.

If fit, Jack's best position will be off half back, with very occasional forays into the midfield. He's a good decision-maker, good disposer, tough and reads the play well.

And at 100% of his best - everyone bar Vince and Jones. If ... IF ... he regains full fitness & form. Which is a huge "if".

Cheers for the response and those of others. I think sometimes a question can be misconstrued as a veiled political point around here. I probably should have framed it differently. I was just curious as to where people had him ranked as to our list position-wise at not necessarily his best but with regard to his best consistent output (2011?). There's quite a half-forward - half-back/midfield squeeze for spots going on at the moment.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round.
