Just occurred to me that there is a bit of a trend and I'm not sure if it's a strategy or coincidence.

Brayshaw and Petracca I think were good mates from U18s

Petracca and Weideman I believe are good mates from Eastern Ranges. So there is a link there.

Oliver and Mitch King would have played together at Bushrangers and in the highlights you can see them linking together.

Probably just a coincidence but it's interesting.

And, Stretch and ANB played together since kiddie days.

Then there is Tom and Oscar.

Coincidence, I reckon but bodes well for mateship and team morale!

Hopefully. But you never know, they might have hated each other as juniors.

yep add Jack viney and Ollie Wines too.....oh wait

fark can't believe i just did that (after deliberately not commenting in the wines boy since that fateful draft....)

I think the ANB and stretch one was luck, from what i've heard the club were shocked he slipped through to pick 40 odd

Strikes me as a sort of strategy. The fibres of strong bonds already exist. Less likely to wander when your best footy mates wear the same jumper.

Not a priority in selecting a player..a happy bonus id say.

Strategy.

And a good one.

And they can play footy okay too.

Didn't Petracca spend a chunk of time doing a kind of 'apprenticeship' with the recruiting staff early in his rehab program, when there was not much physical activity he could do anyway? I can picture Petracca spending the next five months telling Weideman that the only reason he got drafted was because of a god word in the ear of the recruiters.

Aaaanyway...

Interconnection like this is something we haven't seen since the heady days of Trengove/Tapscott (temmates, close family friends), Watts/Blease/Strauss/Scully/Gysberts (all Vic Metro teammates for at least one of their under-18s years), Bennell/Jetta (teammates, rivals for BOG in under 18 Grand Final out west),

I thought that was Hogan.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
