Couldn't disagree more - thought Brayshaws highlight package was ok ... nothing more.

It says nothing about Brayshaw and said everything about the highlight package.

I mentioned it elsewhere but there was two Petracca packages and one made his footskills ordinary at best - the other made his footskills look sublime.

The reliance on any of these packages is sheer folly.

nut, we know highlights reels are flawed, but so far that's all we've got to go on

apart from height/weight (on low side) and draft camp measurements (not impressive)

that leaves us with the junior experts (like sheehan) etc who are so full of hyperbole

i'd like to see more comprehensive highlights before being feeling more informed

so, all i can say now is

a] not whelmed at this stage

b] go along with what the "experts" think (who are never wrong - right?)

c] defer to what the club thinks

trouble is we don't know yet where the club sits on parish, only speculating, more based on where other "experts" think he will fall and that most are saying he is the best midfielder, but after some academy players

Have you checked the complete game footage I posted on the Pick 3 & 7 thread? (AIS Acedemy Vs Weribee) That should answer any questions you have about him because it did for me.

Mids Mids Mids for me

We have Hogan, Dawes, Pederson, TMac, OMac, Gawn, Spencer, Frost who can all pinch hit as big forwards

Lets win the ball and move the ball consistently before we worry too much about the lack of quality talls

I haven't even discussed our poor history of drafting talls or Roos's preference to go with young ready made players early in the draft. I like the sound of Hopper??? I think that's his name but in saying that I know nothing about the young lads

And there's your glaring issue. Hogan is the only quality forward.

We desperately need a Gunston, Stringer or Darling type. Someone who isn't the main focus, but can kick 50+ goals.

I don't disagree that we need outside class, but 50 goal talls are much harder to find, which is why I like the idea of Curnow. The best talls are usually taken early.

Vince, Jones, Viney, Tyson, vandenBerg, Brayshaw, Petracca, Trengove, Salem, Stretch, ANB, and now Kennedy, Melksham and Bugg provide a solid group who can rotate through the middle.

It really depends on who our recruiters think are best available. They may think Curnow has huge upside to partner Hogan and is too good to ignore.

Obviously many of our mids are a work in progress, but if they reach the heights expected we'll be pretty well covered except for a real line breaker. I'd rather that be the last piece in the puzzle than overlook a potential Stringer type.

Although, I also reckon Petracca could be our Stringer and better

He'll build a frame as long as he has the desire to work as hard as he can, (which from what I've read, is one of his strengths).

He looks 'athletic' rather than skin and bone. The frame is there.

Steve, you are not allowed to discuss a player's frame pre-draft.

Not sure how some older members will feel with a player with this appearance running down the wing on the G?

2_AA091015MW1163darcy.jpg

His too small, one contested mark in 14 games says it all. We want players who throw themselves at the ball in the air and in the ground like Fyfe.

Hope we go for Curnow, combination of Curnow/Petracca/Trengove/Kent rotating through forward/half forward and even in the midfield could really push opposition teams to defence. Having this marking power will also make it hard for oppositions to get out of D50

Fellas, what do you think Ben Cousins looked like when he walked into the door at the Eagles as a fresh faced draftee? I use that comparison as their game styles are similair and they are around the same size (Parish is a few cms taller). They are also natural footballers

Parish has the right kind of frame to stack on muscle.. He is not wirey or permanently thin like a Cale Morton for example.

Hard to pick one, if there's not one there to be picked.

AND

Picking a tall at that stage of the draft won't make him into the forward you want him to be.

Pick the player there that deserves it. Obviously.

And I think Parish deserves it, personally.

Do not pick this guy please!!!! I am now on record we will be disappointed.

Anything to back that up?

i've seen nothing to suggest he is anything other than the obvious choice.

I think we should delist him before we sign him up.

That way we can pick him up in next years Rookie draft and inject him with steroids in the meantime.

What have we got to lose?

I never really saw what everyone did in Scully, Toump, Morton but they were the obvious choice.

Going with gut and saying pass.

Based on previous years highlights packages I thought Sam Blease was going to be greatest footballer to ever wear the red and blue. Those unbelievable runs and that beautiful leg that was on display in the two minute package was just delightful.

Don't even start me on the 'complete' player that could play everywhere in big bustling Cale Morton as well. Another great highlights package if I remember correctly.

I'm on Parish and Curnow for this draft. I could add some merit behind this but I'd be lying as I haven't seen either play.

I just like there hair

I remember a highlights package of Blease from a carnival game, and Liam Pickering was gushing every time he was involved. Late in the last quarter the commentators mentioned that Blease has had 8 disposals. This was a common trait throughout the carnival, and I questioned his worth. The standard reply went along the lines of him recovering from some illness. It was proven that Blease had an aversion to winning his own football. That was his ailment.

Reminds me of scully. Impact will be minimal

Reminds me of no one in particular and looks too small and light! Just my opinion!

PASS!

Not a big fan of what I see in his highlight reel.

I think he too small for the modern day midfielder.

He will get pushed off the ball too easily.

Same height and weight as scully who found it hard for the first 5 years to make his way through the middle.

We need 185cm 83+ kgs players.

Do not pick this guy please!!!! I am now on record we will be disappointed.

The more I read the more confident I'm becoming that Parish will make it. Call it the 'reverse mozz'.

After watching the first half of the u18's academy vs Werribee, I would be more than comfortable taking this bloke with pick 3. Two things stood out to me, while he may not have the best 20m sprint time, he does have extremely good acceleration. Twice he received the ball flat footed with a Werribee player bearing down on him, I was certain he was going to be tackled to the ground, both times however he was able to turn, take a few extremely quick steps and buy himself enough time to find a target. Extremely impressive. This brings me to the next thing I noticed about him, his speed of decision making in tight and vision are exceptional. Nearly every time he won the ball in tight, he was able to flick out a fast handball to a team mate in a better position.

I still worry about his size when coming to play afl, but if he can bulk up enough to play in the middle I think he will become a very good afl player. If he is always too small to play in the middle, I think at the very worst he will become a very capable outside midfielder, who is also capable of winning his own ball.

He could go to the Bombers, bulk up on #%^*#}{ then follow Mr Milkshake to us later.

Looks like Caitlin Jenner

I was thinking more Trapper.

ok ok, i know I will cop flak from the PCers, but omg, he is the epitome of how we have been viewed by the rest of the teams in the comp for 50 years.

I hope the kid can seriously play, or fight like a thrashing machine, because he is going to be targeted every game he plays, just for the way he looks.

Looks like a character straight out of a 70's Medieval movie. Can someone photoshop a shield and sword on him?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
