Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That sounds like "Head of Accounting" or Head of Marketing". Your meaning may have been more clear had you said something like, "has full responsibility".

As usual, just trying to help you out Snitch.

Well I would expect you are quite well versed in recognizing people who are heads given there's hopefully still a mirror at your residence you haven't smashed in disgust.

Now move along child, the grown ups are talking about football. Off to your bananas and sexism thread made especially for you and the other special ones.

Using an example that a) is still not established fact and b) resulted in a disastrous outcome doesn't do much to strengthen your argument.

The last time we know for certain that the coach pulled rank on a recruiter was Daniher insisting Craig Cameron take Luke Molan. Another disaster.

The coach would have input at best, but just as one voice in the FD. Even then, that voice should be of Goodwin and not Roos - it is the former's team now. Other than that, the chief recruiter should be trusted to be capable of identifying which players present the most value to the club. He's a senior member of the FD, and is paid accordingly, and that is his chief responsibility.

Neeld overruled Prendergast and took James Sellar over Nick O'Brien

His top 10 doesn't include Melbourne's 2nd selection, which is a pretty poor oversight.

Paywall, but is there a bunch of Academy selections in there?

That might explain it; Mills, Hipwood, Hopper and Kennedy might push our pick to 11.

Could somebody be so kind to copy and paste the content of this story? I don't have a HS subscription.

I did a Google search but had no luck.

He has factored in the academy selections. #10 on his list is actually Gold Coast's #6. The article mentions as being keen on Weideman but surely Francis would appeal at #7!

1. Jacob Weitering (Carlton) 195cm key defender

2. Josh Schache (Brisbane Lions) 199cm key forward

3. Callum Mills (Sydney) 188cm midfielder*

4. Jacob Hopper (GWS Giants) 186cm midfielder*

5. Darcy Parish (Melbourne) 181cm midfielder

6. Matthew Kennedy (GWS Giants) 187cm midfielder*

7. Wayne Milera (Essendon) 185cm half-forward

8. Charlie Curnow (Essendon) 191cm midfield/forward

9. Eric Hipwood (Brisbane Lions) 202cm swingman*

10. Clayton Oliver (Gold Coast) 187cm midfielder

SAM LANDSBERGER’S EARLY TOP 10

1. Jacob Weitering (Carlton) 195cm key defender

2. Josh Schache (Brisbane Lions) 199cm key forward

3. Callum Mills (Sydney) 188cm midfielder*

4. Jacob Hopper (GWS Giants) 186cm midfielder*

5. Darcy Parish (Melbourne) 181cm midfielder

6. Matthew Kennedy (GWS Giants) 187cm midfielder*

7. Wayne Milera (Essendon) 185cm half-forward

9. Eric Hipwood (Brisbane Lions) 202cm swingman*

10. Clayton Oliver (Gold Coast) 187cm midfielder

*Academy selection

MELBOURNE is set to spoil Essendon’s national draft party by taking the best midfielder for the second year in a row.

The Demons and Bombers are both believed to be keen on the most polished onball talent available and have zeroed in on Geelong Falcon Darcy Parish.

But Melbourne sacrificed its first selection next year in a complicated trade with Gold Coast to rise from pick No. 6 to No. 3.

That has ensured the Demons can scupper Essendon, which holds picks four and five.

Tough midfielder Parish has been likened to Adelaide jet Rory Sloane and averaged 129 SuperCoach points per game for the Falcons.

The dual All-Australian is the standout midfielder outside of the three NSW academy stars.

If Parish is gone the Bombers’ pair is expected to come from clever half-forward Wayne Milera, prototype Charlie Curnow, powerful utility Aaron Francis and key forward Sam Weideman.

They all shape as gold selections.

Milera had minor heart surgery before a brilliant three-goal senior SANFL final in September while some believe Curnow could wind up the draft’s best player.

The brother of Carlton’s Ed Curnow is a 191cm marking forward who can play in the midfield and will also be discussed at No.3.

The Demons, also armed with pick No. 7, are fans of the injury-plagued Weideman and can see him forming a lethal partnership with Rising Star Jesse Hogan.

The imposing goalkicker is the grandson of Collingwood legend Murray Weideman.

Demons football boss Josh Mahoney said the club would take the best player available at both early picks.

The Bombers could pounce on versatile big man Charlie Curnow with pick Nos. 4 or 5. Picture: Mitch Bear

Marking forward Harry McKay is unlikely to get past Carlton (No. 8) and Adelaide (9).

Cant read it cos of the stupid paywall but I hope its true, the kid is clearly a jet.

It will be damn shame though for all the posters on here who have for some insane reason judged Parish's football ability on how he looks.

This exact same time last year Sam Landsberger started an article stating that Christian Petracca was set to land at the Saints as they had huge wraps on the kid.

Take him with a grain of salt.

As I said, it's impossible to be categoric with any argument, but common sense tells me it's a far less valid argument.

Parish was no chance of being overlooked by Essendon, such is their dire need for quality in their midfield, whereas Curnow is a genuine chance to be available at pick 7. If Essendon only had one pick it's feasible they'd overlook Parish, but not when they have two.

Twelve months ago Weideman was being bracketed with Schache and Weitering as the quality tall of the draft. There's also Francis who can play at both ends and the middle, albeit he's better in defence. So if we assume Parish takes up one of those picks Essendon still have a choice between Francis, Curnow, Weideman or even Collins as a potential tall forward. It wouldn't surprise me if Essendon take another mid in Mathieson or Oliver their midfield is that putrid.

In summary, there's no way Essendon overlook Parish considering they have picks 4 and 5, but it's entirely feasible they overlook Curnow.

I can smell the stink of Essendon's midfield from here. There's no argument on that front.

Time will tell, but if you look at this latest Top 10 from the Hun. They have us taking Parish, then Essendon with Curnow.

It's conceivable it's the other way around and our need for a forward (in a talls draft) is considered more pressing.

I can see a case for both and you have a compelling argument. I'm just leaving the door as wide open for Curnow at 3 as Parish.

The draft experts' order always shuffles around a bit before the draft, with the last week in the lead-up usually yielding fairly accurate predictions. Last year Petracca was #1 right up until the 11th hour when McCartin suddenly took his place. I think we'll see the "experts" change their predictions a few times yet.

I think Carlton will take Schache.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
