I would have thought that the old adage of best available was the principle to adopt early in the draft but everyone seems to be addressing needs instead. That could be very dangerous and would be a worry if the likes of Weideman and H McKay were taken too early. Still, if the recruiters think Harry's best available then it won't hurt to have an agile 200cm KPP/second ruck somewhere in the mix.

Could he be the McCarthy of this draft or the Cook?

His highlights do look good though.

It wouldn't seem to be in sync with the so called Roos philosophy of drafting talls.

I don't know anything about him, or his twin; But I know Warragul,,, & it IS conservative central... & many are real religiously conservative & judgmental, & narrow minded.

..... for me, I hope he is not in this group.

buyer beware needs to be shown here.

Jonathon Brown would not choose Warragul, I'm sure of that.

A little bigoted to our central Gippsland friends there dee-luded.

I like the look of him and if we do pick him I hope he "judges" all his opponents to be inferior to us and his "narrow mind" focuses on the success of his team.

if so, I hope he does.

as far as bigoted re the Warragul religious rads, i stick by my thoughts & experiences. those I had to deal with were not worth the effort. those normal Warragul people were very nice, & open & friendly. just my experiences, backed up by people all over the Gippsland region, which I've spoken about this to.

# edit: I copped the bigotry of those religious zealots i came across. you have to be there & see/feel it, to i think, realise.

I'd rather Curnow, Milera or Clay Oliver. But I'd hardly say no to a 200cm agile physical left footer,

I'm starting to wonder If I would prefer Weideman & Curnow. with our 2 picks. not so sure of parish.if hes what we really need.

Poor kid doesn't even stand a chance with that 'religiously judgemental and narrow minded train of thought'.....

We've all read the poisonous bile and nasty vitriol you spew at the current government in power in the general discussions forum and most let it go (because its, well, you), but bringing an innocent kid into it is hitting way below the belt in my opinion.

Save your political opinions for the general discussions forum please.

I have been watching all the previously Foxtel televised u/18 championship matches recently, not bothering previously until I knew our picks. I concluded that my preference from this limited knowledge/viewing was Parish at our first pick and McKay for our 2nd. The McKay pick was not really mentioned by anyone for us before and I had my ego stroked a little by the Fox Footy Phantom draft which replicated my top 10 exactly that I had based on full matches and various reports (I don't trust highlight packages as alluring as they may be). It is very possible we both are way off but McKay impressed me more than I expected whilst Parish displayed what I had read and left me very happy that we are expected to choose him. McKay is certainly more than a mark and kick option with good skills and football smarts. He is obviously very tall but quite mobile and still a little way off turning 18 . Huge upside to him and I would be rapt this this to happen, but won't complain if it doesn't because I trust the club more than me in this regard.

Agree i have family in Warragul and i find dee-luded pose offensive and bizarre.

But i am not suprised.

It seems the hype on this kid is building.

Considering Weideman has barely been sighted and Curnow's allure seems to be linked to the vague possibility of stints in the midfield, maybe we (the generally ignorant fanbase) have missed something?.

The idea is growing on me.

200cm KPFs who are great contested grabs, cover the ground exceptionally well and are capable of handling the F50 ruck responsibilities are not common.

His attributes remind me a lot of a player I dearly wish we had - Tom Lynch (GC flavour)

On the draft Pick me thingy that Sam Landsberger does it has us down as a club thats interested in him at potentially pick 7.

I definitely wouldn't be disappointed.

Me either and I also am warming to Darcy Parish as well!

Why is it that we now seem to be linked with all the players that you would hope that we are linked with? Wodonga kid Sam Murray is another case in point.

Given what we've done for the past two years since Prenderghastly left, you would have to say that Taylor and his team are equal to any other side's recruiting officers.

Harry McKay would appear the perfect fit at No.7 - one spot before Carlton - and his extra height means he can potentially do a better job than Curnow/Weideman as back-up ruck.

Gold Coast won't take him because they chose 2m Pete last year.

Essendon may however, but that would be a big call as they need midfielders now more than ruck/forwards given that they have Daniher and Leuenberger on top of Hooker.

Was Taylor thinking McKay when we moved up the order?

If we go Harry, being so young he would most likely spend the year and maybe all of 2017 as well - bulking up and wising up - in the VFL.

But we have another year of Pedo and Dawes as our forwards who can back-up the rucks, even if Sam Frost's turf-toe doesn't mend.

With Jamar and Fitzy gone, we have to get at least one more tall anyway and why not go a guy that may be a gun.

We already have five new recruits this year - included Petracca and Trengove with Bugg/Melkshake and Kennedy - so it doesn't matter if we burn pick No.7 on a 2018 prospect.

But even though a lot of wisdom points to McKay, if Taylor really rates someone else, then his record means you back him in.

Yeah me neither.

If he knew anything about Warragul he'd know that the region has produced some unbelievable footballers.

Most of the views above make a lot of sense.

Just slipping into the draft by age he has a lot of upside.

Could end up around the 204cm mark and another 12 months development like

Hogan had and he could be a steal.

Potential top three pick if he fell into next years draft.

Still a risk/reward proposition but as stated above kids like this are a rare commodity and with Jamar and Fitz gone I wouldn't be disappointed if we took this kid at 7. His brother seems a raw prospect too. Maybe a late or rookie pick?

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
