WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JOEL SMITH

Featured Replies

Welcome to melbourne Joel.

Definitely looks 193cm.

I wonder what his skills will be like.

Generally basketballer's are fairly skilled so hopefully he is a good set shot and possibly play in the forward line with Hoges.

Anybody who is about 1.93 metres and can run sub 2.80 seconds for 20 metres is seriously fast.

He would have decent peripheral vision, fitness, and adherence to strict instruction to play at a high level of Bball, but that's about all you can read into it as far as how he adapts to footy.

Most bball players I have come across that move into footy are all over the talent spectrum but they all really buy into the structures - makes sense to them coming from bball.

Under 19's last year, so has anyone worked out how old he is?

18, 19, 20, 21?

The article says he is 19

Jesse Hogan & Joel Smith.

That's a combination I would like to see...

We just need to pick up Lovett and all of a sudden it's 1995 again.

It's the day for it. We're just now getting in touch with Marty McFly to get his signature for next season, last season, and 1987.

Jesse Hogan, Joel Smith and Jack Watts!

I'm still amazed by the Geelong recruitment of Mark Blicavs in similar fashion and how much he evolved.

Would love for Smith to become our Blicavs.

So, what are the rules for a Category B Rookie? Does he need to be upgraded like any other rookie if he is to play? For the purpose of playing list numbers, does he take one of the rookie spots? How many years can he stay on the list as a Category B Rookie?

Seems like a good time to revisit:

Was sitting right behind this mark, the only interstate game I've ever been to.

Genuine surprise and excitement over this announcement.

Hats off to the club for playing their cards so close to their chest this trade period.

Wow!

I love the romance of the preseasons' endless possibilities.

The drums are sounding and it feels great.

Not hoping for much but there is your Howe replacement if he has decent mitts...

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
