NATIONAL DRAFT PICKS 3 & 7

Featured Replies

Brett Anderson on SEN yesterday thinks we might take Curnow at 3 and Kieran Collins at 7. Fixes up our bookends for the future.

We need bloody MIDFIELDERS.

Has anyone watched our games this season?

Jesse could love this kid.

Exactly what I was thinking

Jesse could love this kid.

Especially when he's delivering the ball lace out!

Parish will be the perfect number 2 midfielder to link the inside grunt to the outside run and carry.

He's a footballer.

I love how quickly he can receive the ball and kick with perfect technique. Doesn't seem to mind the inside stuff either.

Ok now I see why we traded up for Parish.. Good god!

Not sure if this footage has been uploaded on demonland but I found this through the Sydney FC website. In short, we want this kid wearing the red & blue next year

When you look at that video you notice two things.

1) He makes great decisions very quickly.

2) He is sooooo clean with his hands. At at high speed. It's a really tough skill, but it buys you so much time.

This is the footage I expected to see upon hearing Parish was a potential number 3 pick. In addition to the obvious class, quick decision making and leg speed, he also looks to be a nice overhead mark. I look forward to seeing Parish and Petracca exploding out of the midfield hitting up big forward targets in years to come...I dare to dream

And this is why i have been pumping up Parish.. he is a footballer first before athlete. We would be very sill to overlook him at pick 3 for Curnow as Brett Anderson is suggesting.

The only contention was that it was not a "complete lottery". You said it was, hence my response.

you actually get better odds on the pokies

Yeah he's certainly not soft. He just isn't silly and doesn't over commit. He has a sharp footy brain, he realizes quicker than most that if he can't get the football - then lay a tackle, or push on to the next play. In a football climate where players aren't supposed to dive on the ball, I think Parish is an ideal type, he doesn't over commit. As much as I also like Clayton Oliver, his opponent can often run off him, because he can over commit. Parish seems a little bit more aware of the bigger picture, he is an intuitive football player. In saying that, I would be happy with either.

Yeah, he looks like he could be Cousins or, at worst, Shane Edwards...

But still - Cousins!

I reckon if we pass on parish we will regret it bigtime.

Pretty sure we'd be happy with any of the 3-8 range kids to be honest. They all seem to be pretty similar in overall ability. Certainly if you look at what we need Parish looks to be a great fit with the clean hands and foot skills.

I'm quite looking forward to seeing what we do on draft day.

Alot more enticing than the last batch. Actually shows off his neat skills both in close and in open space. The ease with which he can check his kick at the last second to hit a teammate on the chest looks pretty special.

Clearly he needs to add some size, but am feeling less edgy about him.

Damm!!!! Every time I turn the computer on and read footy news I change my mind on pick 3. Buckenara's Dees list review says the only thing missing is outside class. If that point of view shared by Taylor and Co. then Parish is a shoe in. I hope then that Weideman or Curnow slip to 7!!!!! Role on draft night!!!! I need to know!!!!

Of course we would be hoping also that Stretch and Salem can provide outside class as well.

He looks cleaner than an 18-year-old Scully and harder than an 18-year-old Toumpas. Is there still room left on the bandwagon?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
