Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Anyone see a bit of Stephen Tingay in that Parish video?

Definitely, even down to his flaxen locks. If we do draft him, and he turns out to be another 'stinger', all of us here (including the perennial 'Demonland doubters') will be over the moon!

Not really, I said earlier that not having Toumpas in my top 20 was an exaggeration, and that I would've had him in my top 5 - that bump just shows that.

Are you now exaggerating the non-brutality of that bump?

We just don't know anymore...

Yes, I am just playing around.

But your original point is that there were some who didn't want Toumpas but even you had him in that conversation.

I remember being emotionally invested in a kid called Ollie who was best mates with Jack, but it didn't happen - the Captains of Hindsight tell me it didn't have to be this way if only the grown ups were in charge but really, this Teenage Lottery Draft of the AFL makes a child of the most notable expert.

Toumpas was a terrible draft decision but we didn't reach and make a mistake - we made the 'safe' decision on a talent that isn't suited to footy in 2015 that all the 'experts' thought would be better than what he has shown.

Yep, fair call.

Just watching the Country v Metro match, the thing to note with Parish, his 'point of difference' or whatever you want to call it, is that he makes good decisions incredibly quickly and he just doesn't fumble.

One of the reasons why Toumpas struggled is that he struggled to find space with the extra pace of AFL and got stuck with the footy. Parish, on the other hand, is just so quick with his decisions that he gets the ball and finds a great option before anyone has time to tackle him. It's an underrated skill, but is very important at AFL level, especially when he can also be very creative at that speed.

A bit like a rich man's AN-B.

Spatial awareness?

Those damn tests again.

I want footballers.

Tell me about Jack Watts' 20 metre sprint time again.

So long as you tell me about Trengove's 20m, he's a good footballer. I seem to remember recruiters saying it wouldn't be a problem for him.

The main point I'm making is that Parish's times don't equate to/ appear to be worthy of a pick 3, given that good footballers but poor athletes can be picked up late in the draft or rookied - Rockcliff comes to mind.

I'm saying that his times don't seem quite right to me. I came across the whole game footage of him in the AIS Academy V's Weribee and he looks a lot sharper than those times suggest.

Essendon have a track record of manipulating/ bribing kids to make sure they make it to them on draft day, if I had to point the finger somewhere - Heppell comes to mind.

The Bombers tanked hard all last year in order to get him. We traded even harder to get him and I think he is going to be a super player

Enough talking, check him out in this game. Does he look as slow as Trengove did as an 18 yr old? https://vimeo.com/125095504

In the highlights on the AFL website of Parish he does do a Jack Watts tackle at 3:05 mark of the video. Where he tackles someone falls to the ground without taking the opposition player to the ground.

You obviously haven't watched this game then. He often reminded me of a Lion cub taking down a gazelle - Natural Instincts to kill

Sorry if this has been raised before (it's a big thread to catch up on!), but should we set any store by the choice and ordering of players the club website has chosen in its 'countdown to the draft' articles?

1. Francis

2. Curnow

3. Ah Chee

4. Parish

^^^^^^^ By the way there's some good footage of Francis in this game also ^^^^^^^^^^^

Yeah, he reads the play so well. Has great awareness and timing - closes in on his opponents with momentum. I agree with you regards to Parish re: beep test, 13.8 seems a bit low, he didn't look like a guy struggling for pace or endurance in that match.

No. That's just the order they have appeared on the AFL website.

In all likelihood this thread will be "bumped" in 3 years, so I'd like this on record. Mathieson will be a gun. I keep reading that he can't kick, but to me this looks a ridiculous exaggeration. He's such a natural and tough footballer he'll be invaluable with his smart clearances around stoppages.

My preference is for a mid and forward/utility and you could do far worse than making certain of Curnow at 3 and Mathieson at 7.

I also want the finishing class Parish brings and recognise it's a need, but there are a few scenarios that will serve the club well.

I want it on record:

Reads the play well.

Very sloppy skills, scrappy player but will work his backside off.

Doesn't fit any "no DHs" policy.

This is great. Thanks so much for uploading this. You get a good look at Curnow, Tucker, Francis, Parish etc. In a full game. See how they position themselves and get an idea of them in and around the contest.

Would really love to see more footage of Curnow in the midfield. He looks terrific running into space with those long arms and marking ability. Nice finisher and user of the ball. But would just like to see more of his contested ball work in the middle of the ground. He pretty much plays one on one in most of the footage I've seen.

Still preferring Curnow. I just think he has the most potential out of he and Parish. Parish could become a Sloane type player at best. But when you compare him to our previous years midfield drafted players he just doesn't use his body well and is not as good defensively. Of course he can work on those things. But I just think Curnow is a natural smarter footballer and would love to see him playing for Melbourne.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
