Celebrating the win with a ciggie on the field...how times have changed.

I saw the Yarra Junction reserves celebrate their grand final win last week with a ciggie in one hand and a can of Jim Beam in the other.

As for the 51 years, fark that's embarrassing, but thanks anyway WJ for giving me a taste of what things used to be like before I was born.

Absolutely my most cherished football memory. When I re-watched that clip this morning, I found myself cheering when Froggy kicked that goal, and leaping up from my chair, arms in the air, when the final siren sounded. Oh to experience the sheer ecstasy of one of those moments again!

Way back on the evening of Saturday 19 September 1964 as I watched the replay of the game and a filmed adaptation of Alan Hopgood's "And the Big Men Fly", eating chips and potato cakes (I think I was in heaven), I thought it was never going to end.

Now, 18,627 days later, I'm wondering if it will ever start again!

I feel the same jack, except that i have no recollection of that win, living in a Blue-bag dominated household. didn't get to see it, even on telly, IIRC

Also on that day, the phenomenon of the MFC "Next Big Thing" was born, with Ken Jungwirth kicking 5 for the Demons in their win over Collingwood in the U19s. At the end of the day it was a matter of "all this plus a top full forward coming through". The future was secure.

Umpteen false Messiahs later...

Maybey that's the issue with the club... Hung onto the past & not moved on with the times.....

Very sad club was run like a train wreck & supporters left looking @ black & white footage...

Honestly FFS it's how could such a ruthless culture allow itself to become so insignificant & a laughing stock...

Apart from 2 periods of success under Northey & Daniher... We have been a joke...

Had a enough going to my mates house for a BBQ to watch the Hawks play & win another flag!

I'm not sure we were ever "ruthless". Certainly in the second half of the 60s and throughout the 70s we were victims of being part of the Melbourne Cricket Club that believed that cricket was more important and didn't allow spending on football to allow the MFC to match it with other clubs as they slowly became professional.

Apart from his glorious playing career Barassi's greatest contribution to the club when he returned as coach was separating the MFC from the MCC to enable better decisions to be made. Ironically, Jim Stynes' greatest non-playing contribution may have been realigning the MFC back with the MCC. Both decisions were, I think, the right decisions for their times.

I think our success in the 50s and 60s was more a result of the MCC, and therefore the MFC, being the powerhouse amateur club of its time.

Thanks for that WJ. Great memories. I was up a bloody ladder painting my guttering on our new house listening to the broadcast on good old 3AR. I couldn't get to watch the game as they brought in a ticket system which was a real lottery.

In previous years we lined up at the MCG about 9am and rushed in when they opened the gates. Anyway, back to the last minutes, it was a wonder I didn't fall off it was so exciting. It looked like all was lost when C'wood hit the lead with

not much time left. Then good old Froggy did the job! He was a very good cricketer too playing for Victoria as an opening batsman, Sadly, he left us some time ago.

Elvis was shafting twins eating a peanut butter and bacon sandwich on laudanum but that doesn't mean much now.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
