Riley Bonner

With Melbourne expected to finish somewhere in the 13 to 15 range, we should be able to draft a player in the top half dozen of available picks leaving aside the academy bids and the possibility of a compensation pick (a la the James Frawley pick last year).

So why raise a player like Bonner who is being touted as a mid teens selection?

Because there is a chance that the club, having been involved in the trade deal that got us Dom Tyson and Christian Salem, could try to manufacture another one that could lead us to a player with these credentials:-

"Riley Bonner

Height: 189cm, Weight: 76kg

Club: West Adelaide

Position: Defender

If you were tracking last years draft, Riley Bonner is like Harrison Wigg, but taller. Some recruiters believe that Bonner is the best kick of the 2015 Draft Class, and its not hard to see why. Bonner hits the ball hard, flat and gets serious penetration and purchase with a variety of kicks. Hes got speed, hes got dare and dash, his lateral movements rate elite, and his sidestep through traffic coming out of the backline makes him a tantalizing prospect for a club thats looking for a chief playmaker coming out of defence. The left-footer has a raking kick, but is super-efficient on his right a very rare trait for lefties. Hes shown both at West Adelaide and at Championship level that there is scope for him to play minutes with the midfield, and with his attacking nature, he projects to be a wanted man for those in the 12-20 bracket for picks in November."

Paige Cardona ~ Paige's Draft Board

A player who is considered "the best kick of the 2015 Draft Class" and can "play minutes with the midfield" would be handy, particularly if the other player in the deal also might happen to be a midfielder.

Sounds like Hawtho n will be into him in a big way.

Looks a dent size too

Let's grab him - though will trust Taylor's superior judgement.

Haven't been paying much attention to draft prospects this year. Is Riley Bonner a real person's name or something out of a Pynchon novel?

Is he indigenous? The first indigenous Senator's name springs to mind. Edited by monoccular

Pynchon who?

Yes, I know, Tommy...

How many people on this thread read books, do you reckon, Skuit? how many people listen to Brahms? Just a question. Just nice to see a post mentioning something cultutal insteead of the normal gutter-sniping drivel.

Is he hard at the contest and competitive?

The last thing we need is another James Strauss clone

However if he is the write up looks really good. God knows we need some elite kicks in our team

Perhaps a trade along the lines of our first pick to Adelaide for their first pick and Tom Lynch?

now the dees season is over, i expect much more talk about potential draft scenarios/prospects.. watching this kids highlights is impressive. his skillset fulfils our needs. i would be excited if the dees called his name with our first pick. up there with parish (who'll be long gone by our pick) & curnow (may still be around by our pick 6-8). also weideman would be a great get.

yes, he looks an awesome kick. surely we need some more of these?... however, he's also composed, fast, plays with dare, has a step and would look good in a dees guernsey - along with the other south australians we have on the list..

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
