GDay Dee-Land!

I just thought I would find out if any other Dees fans are as crazy as me to have game day omens or rituals in the lead up to the big days?

Would love to hear your thoughts!! :) :)

Go Dees!!! :)

I mute my TV and buy some booze. Other than that, no rituals for me.

Game day omen ... if one of our players gets a big write up in the paper on the day of the game, we are doomed.

I think your the only crazy fan UD

I don't have one but tomorrow I will do a lap of the MCG Mecca style and if we win I will continue the ritual.

The morning of a game I have my coffee in my Demons mug and sing "It's a Grand Old Flag" with my 2 year old son after eating breakfast. He pretty much knows the words now and his favourite colours are of course red and blue.

Don't believe in Omens, too much like believing in God!

Fuel for the weak!

I don't believe in omens or religion, but also don't diss the practice. What's more weak? Having omens or being intolerant of those that do?

Let's not get into that discussion again...

My omen is a tin of VB with my weet-bix the morning of the game. Ensures that I enjoy the day no matter the result.

When I wake up in the morning and look at the clock and it says 9:11.......I know the team is in for a bad day.

As in, putting the VB on your weetbix or just on the side,,,,my fathers brother.....if there was no milk in the fridge would crack open a beer and put it on his weet bix, bit of a crazy bastard but a legend for it.

Not really an omen but Its either -

stocking the fridge with wild turkey cans ( caffeine after a 3am start ) and a bottle of red at the ready before yelling dancing in front of the tv like a crazy man.Hopefully the missus returns at siren time so I can sing the song with my 18 month old daughter.

Or slipping into the g hitting the bar my trident seat and trying to remain calm and be a decent dude before vacating the members area heading downstairs to standing and yelling my guts out.

hopefully we win.

then its off to a bar or 3 . he he.

I usually find the best way is to slaughter an animal, spread it's entrails out on the kitchen table and then decipher the signs from there.

I'm not into the I Ching ,Tarot Cards or anything esoteric.

I don't drink tea,so tea leaves are out of the question.

Luckily for me ,there is a Lebanese man with too many cats, who use my courtyard as a thoroughfare/toilet.So I have a ready supply of Omens.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
