Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Werribee is Casey's bogey team but this is a must win (I say that every week, I know) for the Scorps to secure their place in the finals.

It would seem that Oscar McDonald has been dropped to the development league team. Maybe they're giving him a "rest" this week because this review of his game for Casey against Collingwood VFL from coach Justin Plapp isn't too bad except for the reference to him getting beaten "a couple of times in one-on-one contests". I believe the player who beat him those couple of times was a Collingwood AFL premiership player.

Oscar McDonald: Oscar had 17 possessions and he’s kicked a really good goal from outside 50, where he broke the line and got the ball out the back of the opposition and went through for a 60 or 70-metre goal. He did some great things with as third man up and dropped off a couple of times. He also took some really courageous marks, but got beaten a couple of times in one-on-one contests, so we’re really working hard with him on those. We understand that’ll come with maturity. But he’s giving us what we expect from him at the moment, without trying to put too much pressure on him either.

They've also named vandenBerg and ANB which means that they have three players in the 22 named to play Collingwood.

Who do they think they're kidding?

Surely if vandenBurg, Harmes and ANB play in the seniors (Melbourne, that is), Oscar, King and White play in the Casey seniors. It's all a bit silly. I'm in favour of abolishing the "Emergencies" anyway. There seems to be no problem plucking another player and playing him instead of those named as an Emergency, so why persist with this farce?

King and White in Dev team is also a joke, let alone The Biz, vdB and Harmes in Snr team. White was pretty good in the patches that I could pick him out. King in dev squad is a nonsense.

King is still developing, but believe me, he is developing this season. He held his own on a few occasions against more mature and well developed bodies. They miht not have been his height, but well built and able to hold their grpund. Kingy showed he could take the odd overhead grab against them (and lose plenty of contests too - don't get too excited yet). But he also showed he is poised and intelligent when kicking towards goals - either to score himelf, or to kick to advantage of others (e.g. Hunt).

Yes noticed that too, even if only off the replay. Some chemistry between a tall and a small in the forward line is something we've missed for a long long time.

White was our best according to the coach.

Never take notice of the team lineups at Casey, they are never right as they are waiting on the final AFL line up...

A big shout out to Declan Keilty who will debut tomorrow as Casey's 23rd man. A terrific young kid who got overlooked in last years draft but continues to work his backside off and is getting the rewards he deserves. At 195cm and still only 19 I think this kid has a massive future. Good luck Dec.

I'll be heading to the game, but yes it is interesting that Oscar has only been named in the development team. King & White were named in both, so I expect them to play seniors.

Maybe it's a match up thing given all Jamar, Spencer, Fitzpatrick, King, Panozza & Hutchins are going to play, maybe there just isn't a match up v Werribee for Oscar?

Disapointing for him though as he's been developing nicely.

Very much looking forward to seeing him Salem, Hunt & King go. Will also keep a close eye on Toumpas, Kennedy-Harris & White.

Might be related to the post above. If that young fella is a CHB then maybe there isn't room and Casey likely have obligations to fulfil with the 23rd player. Plus dropping Oscar back for an easy kill might be good for him. Our youngsters are tiring at AFL. No reason to dismiss that as perfectly logical if a young tall is doing the same at VFL level.

Might head down tomorrow, only 35 minutes down the road. Hopefully a few of the boys from today's win get down too.

What's the best place to park? How much is entry? (sorry for the questions that have probably been answered ad nauseum)

Unless there's a special event on (and it would have to be a big one) parking is no problem at Casey for VFL games. There's a big car park just next to the grand stand and plenty of other parks around the rest of the adjacent ovals.

Not sure on entry. Do you still get a Casey membership with your MFC one. I haven't been this year so not sure. Otherwise someone will know.

Yes, all you need to do is just show your MFC membership.

Casey's crash out to Collingwood last week has probably cost it the opportunity to get the double chance but I'll repeat what I've been saying for a while - this week is a must win.

The Scorpions should have around about 15 AFL listed players again while Werribee would be lucky to have half that amount given that the Tigers share their North Melbourne alignment with North Ballarat. A Scorpion loss would therefore not be a good look for the Demons in the team.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the absence of Dean Kent in either of Casey's teams this week. I suspect that it's due to hamstring tightness.

I'm still wondering what's up with Tim Smith.

He's been out for a while and hope he's back soon

Wind has picked up since last posted.

Just watched the development team walk off the ground at half time with a 49 point lead and no sign of Oscar. Hopefully he is in with the seniors.

I can advise that it's currently beautiful, sunny and still out casey way. So hoping for a good day of footy!

Nice to see the weather gods have been good to you this time Angry. A pleasant walk to the ground?

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
