Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 17

Agree with how cringe worthy the Viney comments were. The last quarter of that game was played in their half so the Dees would have snatched it. I wish the players would just shut up and let their actions on the field do the talking.

I'll be shattered if we can't beat St Kilda at the 'G with Riewoldt on one leg.

Honestly, they went out and got the $350k a year coach. We got the $1.5m one.

They have taken kids, kids and more kids and we've gone a little bit older with the likes of Vince and Lumumba, and even went for Tyson who'd been in the AFL system for a couple of years.

These are the games where these players really have to deliver. These are the games we recruited them for.

You cannot discount where these two clubs have been in recent history though. One played in Grand Finals in the last five years and still has a core of players from that team playing, so a strong culture has been in tact and been able to nurture the young guys coming through. The other club fielded the worst team in 2013 I think I've ever seen, has won about 20 games in seven seasons and had deep rooted cultural problems across the entire club, as near as two years ago.

There's absolutely no point in comparing them. St Kilda have a couple of nice, young players, but we've built a core over the last two or so years that will far supercede their crop. This week will see another tight game and possibly a Melbourne loss, but over the next 5 to 10 years, I think you'll find we'll be dominant.

We're moving in the right direction and are currently about on par with St Kilda, although they're probably slightly more consistent due to their core group of leaders from the Lyon era. But we've closed that gap significantly in 12 months and it will only improve next year, whereas St Kilda may lose one or two of their experienced leaders. I think when this happens, you'll find they'll dip in form.

That's true, OD. But unfortunately, as you well know, these things take time.

Totally different situation - We had to target some senior players because we had no decent experienced players to lead the way. They are building a young list around some mature premiership players.

Would be happier with Howe deep in forward pocket and told to stay inside 50 for the long bomb or anything in the air but to keep away from Hogan .

Watts can then be played up the ground and deliver to Hogan Howe or any other presenting forward target. He is one of the few who can spot em and kick to them. wasted in the pocket for mine.

I agree mate.

But we seem to have been saying that for a fair while now. 'Oh Dal Santo and Goddard are gone we should go past them soon'. 'Oh they lose Milne and Hayes this year...we'll get them soon'. 'Oh Riewoldt and Montagna are almost gone we should just about go past them'.

We've never got there though because the Armitage's and Steven's of the world have improved in the meantime, and yes that's because they've had strong leaders at the club to bring these players through while we were a basket case.

And that's why we had to bring in Cross, Vince, Lumumba - leadership and experience. So these are the games these blokes need to step up in.

We've got the $1.5m coach and we're not that young so I'll be shattered if we can't beat them at the 'G.

I agree DR. Side looks better Grimes in. Mitchie not a fan but hard to seem him as worse than those going out.

We need to see more of him at AFL, he's put in a consistent block of performance for Casey and I think the conditions will suit him. Just hope he isn't given the sub vest.

Think Viv needs to be given a full game and given an opportunity to play for his spot on the list. No point making him the sub... Stretch should be the sub

I am one of the few people that like Viv... he has only played 4 games this season but played very well in the win over the Tigers

Sure he has some flaws but hes nowhere near terrible. I hope he plays well vs Saints and plays the last 7 games.

I wish the best for Michie, I had high hopes for him but I find it hard to see him firming a spot in our best 22 now. If Newton was playing as well in the VFL he'd be the guy we'd go to, but fair enough to give Michie another shot, a complete waste if he's sub however

Stretch will be the sub, would be shocked if he isnt

But bb, who kicks the winning goal in the last minute, out of the centre clearance to win the game for us??

Who else but Bernie! Kicked the sealers v Geelong and Tigers.

Should be, in fact I'm pretty shocked he's been given such a long run in the side. I've liked some of what I've seen but don't think he's done enough to firm that position when Toumpas was going alright

agreed. at this stage in Stretch's career i felt Toump had been performing better.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
