Good games from Dawes and Howe. Good work to the boys. I like the idea of seeing Mac forward. Come draft time we might end up with a Key Defender or 2 instead of a key forward and McDonald could go full time forward. I just don't trust his kicking.

Just because it was a low scoring game, doesn't mean it was a bad win. To me it looked like a repeatable style of win based on strong defence and a range of key forwards. Ugly doesn't necessarily mean bad.

Sorry, mate. Was out for dinner. He went in under duress and they were saying he wouldn't have played had it not been Maddie's match. I'd say he'll miss next week, then again I didn't expect him to play this year. So he could well come up for next week.

We got smashed in the clearances. 43-22.

To me it's a combination of Brisbane's superior midfield (Christensen had 8, Beams 7, Rocky 5) and our midfield getting used to Gawn as our ruckman. He is a different style of playing to the big Russian.

I thought the umpiring was poor today. Brisbane kicked 4 goals, two of which were directly from questionable umpiring decisions. There's absolutely no that should have been 50 against JKH, and Christensen's free kick in the last was marginal at best (his constant staging never helps the situation).

But the one part of umpiring that gets me, and it happened again today (JKH first quarter) is when they randomly ping us for HTB due to the player 'not making a genuine attempt'. Pretty [censored] hard to make an attempt when you have no prior opportunity and the ball is pinned to you. Always against us.

I agree but it's not confined to 'always against us'. It's one of the many inconsistencies in the umpiring. Sometimes forgetting to make a fake attempt to punch away an immovable ball or neglecting to go into fake spasms will get you pinged, sometimes not.

That 50m 'penalty' was just the sort of momentum changer that previously would have caused us to crumble.

It would've been nice to kick a higher score and it wasn't a game for the ages, but to keep a side to 4 goals is seriously good going.
