Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Difficult to rate Toumps game for me. The good was excellent, the bad was face palming. Problem is he panics in certain situation and gives up goals from it. Last night he got 2 of his own so that's a good output from him. It may well be a slow build with him getting him confident in his abilities. Part of me thinks he's still got Neeld's voice in his head at times.

Yeah, Toumpas made errors. The encouraging thing for me was that he kept putting in the effort and tried to make up for his errors.

Not long after his fluffed handpass for the Stringer goal, I recall him battling for a possession on the wing, winning the contest and forcing the ball forward. Can’t remember if it led to a stoppage in our fifty or a clean possession for one of our players, but he was determined to win the ball and move it forward.

Errors will come from developing players, it’s the response that shows the character and hopefully the learning. I was happy with the way Jimmy followed up. There have been times in the past where he makes a mistake and is pretty much anonymous afterward. Hopefully what we saw on Sunday is his new standard.

Obviously the Bail missing 20% was that dreadful kick for goal at three quarter time.

At the time he marked the ball there was a MFC player 12 metres out on his own and Bail ignored him.

A goal then would have snuffed out the Dogs before the last quarter started.

Fortunately the Dees went on to win easily in the end so everyone forgets about Bail.

Sorry - i think you are off the mark on this one. There is enough to criticise Bail for- I thought the pass off was risky.

He was right to go back and take the shot - he let himself down with the kick and that will always be the knock on him.

I thought both he and Jones added good forward defensive pressure but the best way to create defensive pressure on running backs like Murphy is get the ball yourself - it keeps them more honest. Neither got enough of the ball themselves.

After a sluggish start I thought Vinces job on Bont was fantastic. Because Vince not only stiffled his output but started to get so much of the ball himself he had Bontempelli second guessing himself whether to defend or attack and ended up doing neither well.

After watching the game again Fitzpatrick had a perfect game. Kept Boyd to 1 handball and had 100% efficiency with 14 touched and a lot of good marks.

I didn't see that coming - did anyone else? Would have expected Tom to take the million dollar man but full credit to Fitz, and to Roos et al for giving him the responsibility and putting their faith in him.

Isn't hind sight a wonderful thing.

I think it has all been said on to next week.

No, not hindsight. When he took the mark I saw he had a loose man on in the goal square but was hoping he would go back and take the shot in fear of the siren going with the ball mid air. I was conscious it had been a long quarter as were the people sitting around me who had been saying for the last minute or so "when is the siren going to go" and pointing out the time on the clock.

I am not changing my view and neither are you Dr so i guess the discussion is over.

lets hope Bail can kick the next one from point blank.

Watching Toumpas and Watts delivering the ball yesterday and with Salem to come back there is plenty of reason to hope for much better movement into the forward line. Will help remedy one of the more obvious long term problems.

I just got home from the match and although i predicted a win I didn't think it would be such a good one.

The tackling was superb.

Fitzy and Spencer were awesome.

Garlett is a class above,as is the Hulk.

Jones is a pure gladiator.

Toump is a gun kick, terrible handballer.

Howe earned his cheque today.

Vanders awesome.

The only really terrible games came from Matt Jones and Ro Bail .

Oh -Pedersen was outstanding.

Well yes, Garlett is a class act, but he shouldn't have been kicking from outside the boundary line in the first place.

Watts made an outstanding lead, was completely on his own, and the angle would have been more than halved.Garlett ignored it to Watts' disgust.

It was a great goal but selfish play

There again, if you thought Matt Jones was poor, have a look at the replay. How much did Bob Murphy do?

As soon as he stopped I knew a behind would be the result

I can only assume one of three things given your self declared precognition; 1) that things improve dramatically for us in the coming years, 2) you are a masochist, or 3) you want to sound smarter than you are.

I'm fairly sure the latter is the short odds. If not, feel free to PM me the lotto numbers for the weekend.

well Mitch Robinson is now at Brizzy, but we should smash them also ;)

He spoke as a representative of Carlton when he said it, therefore they will pay for his sins.

But I do agree we should smash Brisbane just to be sure.

Nope. Grimes should go. His disposal and decision making is still VFL standard. And go around again, Gus. We need you.

What absolute crap! Of course Grimes plays. He is a seriously good defender. He messed up ONE kick yesterday. He hit a number of targets from a considerable distance .His courage is inspiring

Bail and Matt Jones contributed to the win. But they left 3 or 4 goals out there with misses, poor shots, turnovers and lack of understanding of forward play.

Right on half time one of them could've simply tapped the ball over to Garlett who would've run in to an open goal yet instead took possession. Jones gave away a careless high free to Murphy and had his quota of fumbles. Bail let quite a few tackles slip.

I'm glad Roos deployed them as role players and they did the role. Watts and Toumpas filled the much needed roles for some run and skill up the ground. Brayshaw does a bit of both, Pedersen and Hogan provide the big targets, Howe the versatile option and Garlett chips in with some finishing skills.

Viney and Jetta have to come in and then the question should be asked whether we can use other players (say Viney and Newton) in the roles Bail and Jones did or if they are worth keeping as they have pace, endurance and discipline.

Dropping guys who have done their job is always a tough ask. But personally I'd go for the skilled players but make it known that Matt Jones and Bail are there in reserve and if you don't work hard enough they'll get your spots as they've shown an ability to do a job for the team even if it did come with some errors.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
