unbelievable, to be honest.

Not unbelievable as it will be due to frontloaded contracts

Smart business actually.

I think we l let them fight it out for Treloar and work on an Aish Pretia Coniglio or O Meara type on less coin

You might want to check how Treloar went on Cotchin on Saturday before we all go head over heels.

Seems 6 year+ deals are the new black. Unbelievable that 10 yrs ago 3 yr deals were perceived as long, 2 yr was standard

And which club will be the first to offer a long term deal like this and see it backfire when the player is underwhelming or goes down with regular injuries?

I hope we don't do the same, although FA puts plenty of pressure on clubs to lock up players for long periods of time. It's a risky business.

Wouldnt be against a long term deal to Hogan. Sooner rather than later. For a marquee player it's justified. 2016 marks the end of the dead wood contracts.

It just reminds me of the NBA. Smaller market teams offering huge deals to lure players who don't end up working out, and then they are stuck with a contract that no one else wants to take on. And when they do find a suitor they are given well below market value for the player.

I'm not against long term deals for marquee players, but a club has to also be realistic. You don't want to be lumped with too many of those types of deals otherwise it can leave much of your list short on talent in too many areas.

We are better off aiming for the moon first before shooting for the stars.

Bring in 3 to 4 "good to better than " in lieu of one "star"

Just my thinking of course

MFC won't have a say in it they will do what Hogans Manager tells them to do.

Not a bad way to think about it.

But first and foremost we need excellent facilities and coaching staff to develop the list. If we have that in place we can always bring in other players, draft in some kids etc. to continually support these marquee players. If a middle of the road player wants too much money then we can feel safe in the knowledge that we have players waiting in the wings to replace them.

The way we got Vince is a perfect example of this. Sylvia wants out so we get proactive and get Vince to replace him. We are instantly a better side. With FA there will always be players out there who we can get and we just need to make sure we stay proactive and not clog the salary cap with long term deals that leave us with little room to move.

HWFUA?

Tell you what - I'd offer a "ridiculous" 6- 8 year deal to O'Meara if he was a chance. FMD twice over - imagine him in our midfield.

Confirmed by who?

FWIW, isn't Jaeger part of the "God squad" with Ablett?

He doesn't strike me as a disloyal type, but if he's looking at property in Melbourne with a girlfriend living down here, plus the turmoil up there... who knows.

Wtf is a god squad?

Caro is saying Bennell is on the move - would love him, I reckon with Roos, Goodwin, McCarthy and Jetta to take him under his wing like he has with Garlett GET HIM TO THE DEMONS!!

In a heartbeat BBO. O' Meara, Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca, Tyson, Jones, Vince..........Bail

Bit hard to include bail in our midfield rotations when he will be a direct trade for JOM

Why would Moloney know anything about the Melbourne salary cap?

That being said I seem to recall Roos saying something about spending more of the cap this season to free up funds later. I question this as it is exactly the tactic that allowed Frawley to walk, but I guess the plan is to make Melbourne more attractive so players won't want to walk anymore, so that's ok.

It's all well and good for clubs like North and Richmond to offer Treloar big money but they are also going to have to satisfy GWS.

With our first pick and Howe we should have that covered....

Why would Moloney know anything about the Melbourne salary cap?

He means Mahoney.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
