He basically said, beaten by a better team, extremely confident in our development program, believes our list will be in great shape when Goodwin takes over, jack watts is desperate to play senior footy for mfc but felt he was letting his mates down, hoping to bounce back

he was also on 3aw. I only heard him speak about watts where he said he does want to play with his mates but he feels he has been letting them down and wanted to find some form. Was asked about Dawes's comments about hawthorn during the week. Roosy said I have no idea why players do that and it didnt really help. Said Hogan was a bit sore yesterday and they just didnt want to risk him.

Not sure if he said anything different on triple m

Looks as if Roos wasn't impressed with Dawes comment?

Watts the chances Dawes pulls up too sore for the 1sts and's rested in the ressies

Yesterday he said we were tired and couldn't run.

I don't see any other teams at this level struggling to keep up with the opposition by the end of a 1st quarter... wth is going on down there!

Did anyone bother to ask him this?

Yes roos must of really cringed when he heard about dawes comments, there is one thing to be a big talker but you must be able to back it up, dawes talked the walk but he was the worst on ground, you would never get a player in QPR say they expect to beat man u, even if they had lost 5games in a row, it would only anger man u and make them determine to kick the [censored] out of th didem, just like what the hawks did to the dees

Loved how he also said he'd try and expose chips lack of fitness only to lose the duel comprehensively.

Posted

To be fair, he was actually very complimentary of Frawley as a person and as a player - he just suggested that his lack of match fitness would be the thing to focus upon. Hardly a controversial statement in the circumstances IMO.

Posted

Agreed Ron, but I didn't feel he ran hard enough to expose any lack of fitness anyways, maybe better to say he's looking forward to testing himself against chip

Posted

I don't think our problem is so much fitness but instead the extra work we create every time we turn the ball over.

totally agree we waste a lot of energy by running to the wrong position and either having to backtrack or chase.

Posted

Didn't he shed a few kgs during preseason so he could run harder during games? Where are the results of this? All it's achieved is making him less imposing than before.

Posted

Reakon he thought Hogan would run Frawley around, not him.

Did they ask Roos why the hell he gave contract extensions to Terlich and Spencer?

ruck man take time there are not too many 203 cm, many ruckman don't reach their peck until about 26, as with terlich u need depth players and he is not as bad as some make up, also he provides a muture body for training, there is 40 on a AFL list, believe it or not you need depth players even if only for the seconds, i find it funny how stupid same sound, you can only turn over so many in one season, you don't delist everyone thats a depth player, Edited by not angry anymore

Pretty sure Dawes was lacking match fitness himself, and was talking in general terms.

Simply, we've been turning the ball over a lot more against superior teams the last few weeks, that means you have to run a lot more, and that eventually takes its toll. And it snowballs.

Perhaps you should head down to training and ask him yourself? FMD....

I can't for the life of me understand why Paul Roos is not copping the same scrutiny as Malthouse (or indeed that Neeld copped in his last year). Roos' last 17 games have resulted in 2 wins and 15 losses. Percentage in that time is 62% (61 points for, 99 against). We have been seriously competitive in maybe 5 of those games, and embarrassing in the rest.

I have seen nothing in Roos' time to suggest that he has any idea how to coach on match day. As soon as the initial match ups are blown away, he is totally bereft of ideas. When have we ever seen this team come out of a break and turn a game around, or even just dig their heels in and fight for 15 minutes?

The only player on the list who has improved is McDonald and, as a developing key position player, he was always going to improve as he got more experience. Most of the list have gone backwards - significantly so in the case of players like Howe and Watts. We pay big money to guys like Dawes, Lumumba and Vince to prance around doing sweet FA.

I'm sure people will say that Roos needs time to build a list. That is complete crap. He has recruited half of the list, and re-contracted most of the others. As far as I am aware, Jamar and McKenzie are the only players on the list who have not had a new contract in Roos' time. Guys such as Bail, M.Jones, Riley and others offer nothing, but they have been given new deals and countless opprtunities. I was no fan of Neeld, but he had a comparable winning percentage to Roos with a far weaker playing list. And he cost us about a third as much for the privilege.

Because Malthouse was brought in to bring them a flag and instead he has turned them into horse sh it.

Roos was brought in to improve our whole playing list and culture which he has done so far. Too many times we have pointed the finger at the coach and not enough at the players. When are players going to stand up and take responsibility?

And for the love of god do NOT ever put Mark Neeld and Paul Roos in the same bracket. The only positive thing Mark Neeld ever did to this club was get us Paul Roos! The guy nearly killed off this club just like Malthouse is doing at Carlton.

Neeld also gutted the list with utter stupidity, and set us back at least 3 years in list management.

If Roos can't fix this team then we may as well fold, because the endless blame game for the coach is part of the reason this club has been an embarrassment for years.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
