I think Luke Beveridge deserves a lot of credit, I never rated McCarntney as a senior coach.

Or it could be the other way around.

McCartney laid a lot of the ground work for their list. He identified talent, brought it in, but then was a great development coach and brought the best out of previously nothing-players.

The difference was that he couldn't spark the list enough to get them moving and scoring and the change to Beveridge has done just that. But this is McCartney's list and Beveridge has simply tweaked it to reap the rewards.

On ANZAC day St Kilda lost to Carlton. The following week the Dogs beat Sydney.

Do you think St Kilda fans looked at their game against the Dogs the next week and thought they had a chance?

I'm not saying we're better than them, or even that we're going to win, but statements like 'we are no chance' or the game is 'unwinnable' aren't just unhelpful, they're wrong.

Bulldogs are playing like a top 6 team for most of this year.

Team play, accountable football, confidence in one another, urgency, drive, aggression.

They will smash us by 10 goals. Bookmark it. We haven't turned the corner yet to beat them. They've turned that corner. We just need to pray we beat the Saints,Carlton and Brisbane.

Look at their game plan.

Dean Bailey had the same game game plan and its no wonders guys like Trengove Scully Scully Gysberts were thriving.

Id let Goodwin take over and Roos can finish his contract as director of coaching or whatever

Roos has his philosophy on coaching, whether for the modern game or not.

But real reason Roos was hired was stability and experience in developing a culture to make us successful. to me that is his real purpose.

We are seeing glimpse's of it, but its a slow process. I liken it to when Barassi was called in Sydney in the 90s. Stop the rot, start to build a culture and the Eade, Roos extended it once the foundations were in place.

Whether he has got the right game plan, he is slowly brining in players that will try consistently which has been our biggest problem. Flash in the pan players, great one week, poor the next.

Yeah, I agree. I think Roos is doing a fantastic job. He knows what he is doing.

By the time Roos leaves, we will all be ready for a change anyway. But Roos is the man to get us back on track.

Based on yesterday's performance we are 17 goals shy of being competitive with last year's premiers with a few of their best mid fielders out.

This list will need to be churned for at least another 2 to 3 more drafts before we see any light. I would expect it might be the coach after Goodwin before we start seeing any significant improvement to our present "dead cat bounce" ladder position. By that stage most of our NQR crew from the "Neeld/Bailey" era would have been looked over for new blood that can actually play football (ie., can actually pass the ball/kick goals accurately by foot and run/tackle like berserk animals). Roughly about 14 could that make it from the current list and be there in approx 5 years (taking into account age/longevity of existing seniors). That means another 7 required for 22 and at least another 7 to 8 for depth and mid season rotations eg., a list of approx 30 decent AFL footballers who can/will play.

It will take 3 to 5 years to get 60 to 100 games into many of the newbies and those on the present list who we hang on to. It might be Goodwin but it looks that far away at present that it might also be someone else who finally reaps a little reward post Goodwin.

Yeah, it's the great unknown. I think we've drafted and traded quite well the last couple of drafts.

There's two more draft/ trade/ free agency periods before Goodwin coaches his first game.

If we can develop the young talent we've got, we'll improve quickly imho.

But like I said- drafting and development is the great unknown.

That was the dogs 3rds almost. We ran them close last year and a poor defensive error at the death cost us. Wont happen this year.

All the heat will be on Carlton despite our loss. We lost to a very good team Carlton lost to a mid range team that I don't think will make the 8..

With Brisbanes performance today I think we can lay claim to being the worst team in the company and looking down the barrel of another wooden spoon. The Suns are the only other contenders.

We lack this in truck loads, voiced this before but games like this and considering one of the teams are a bottom of the ladder team, is very concerning.
