Interested to know at what stage of the season did everyone "know" that we were the real deal, and were a serious shot at a flag.

Would have to go back through my own history, but I reckon I had us as premiership favorites maybe 6 rounds prior to end of regular season.

As a 40+ year negative nancy, that was a bloody good feeling.

In MFCSS world, then, you were both impressively 'out there'!

That was a "Holy Sheet" moment for me, but not a "we are gunna win a flag" moment, because I though the Tiggers were done at that point.

You were more brave than I.

they certainly weren't done at that point....maybe later in the season.....and they threw everything at us

but it was the way we played....the pressure.....the decision making......the structure.....the skills given the conditions

i started to dream ... of great things

So did I.

But that was not the moment when I thought we were the real deal.

Yep that started it for me and then when we dismantled the Dogs and ran over the Lions in successive weeks I thought we were clearly the best team in the comp it was just a matter of us not falling in a heap as we had been want to do through our history.

It felt like a changing of the guard though. Actually I'm rewatching the 2nd half of this match now (I watched the 1st half the other night). Such joy especially because the Tigers looked on top early, their supporters were actually stunned into silence at what they were witnessing. It was beautiful.

It’s also 61 years since we won back to back flags. Frankly, it’s been a long time and I’m sick and tired of waiting.

We've been waiting 65 years for a three-peat! It was only 16 years between our last two.

I thought we were the real deal after we beat Brisbane in the middle of the season. Mind you, doubts crept in after GWS, Collingwood, Hawthorn etc…

I wouldn't mind a re-boot of this whole topic to remind us what embarrassing records we still hold. We've got rid of the most embarrassing - the 57 years since the last Premiership - but what else is there? Two immediately come to my mind, neither of which I can see changing in the foreseeable future:

  • largest losing margin in V/AFL history (was it 190 points against Fitzroy...is that right?)
  • having no-one kick 100 goals in a season

What else is left?

Just a few obvious ones that come to mind:

1) Haven't beaten Adelaide in Adelaide on a Saturday since 2017. Nor a Sunday since 1996.

2) Haven't beaten Brisbane on a Friday night in QLD since the Bears inception in 1987.

3) Haven't beaten Carlton in a home MCG game on a Saturday since 1997.

4) Haven't beaten Collingwood on an MCG Q'Bday game since 2017

5) Haven't beat Essendon in a home game since 2010

6) Haven't beaten Freo in WA since 2004

7) Haven't beaten GWS at the MCG since 2018

8) Haven't beaten Gold Coast on a Sunday game since 2018

9) Haven't beaten Geelong in Geelong on a Saturday in a non COVID affected year since 2005

10) Have never beaten Hawthorn in a Saturday or Sunday twilight game.

11) Have never beaten North at Marvel

12) Haven't beaten Port in consecutive attempts  in Adelaide.

13) Haven't beaten Richmond in an away game since 2015

14) Haven't beaten St Kilda at the MCG since 2017. Have never beaten them at the MCG in the 1:10pm slot.

15) Haven't beaten Sydney on a Sunday at the MCG since 2001

16) Haven't beaten West Coast on a traditional Fri/Sat/Sun game in Perth since 2017

17) Have never beaten the Dogs on a Friday night at the MCG.

I don’t think we wanted to, but we were in the habit of falling in a heap. It was certainly our wont.

This one is almost impossible as we rarely get a home game against them.

This isn’t a record that needs breaking but something I’d love to see us set is largest winning margins on QB vs Pies.

Also what’s the record for largest losing margin for the Cats at KP, would love for us to take hold of that one.

Correct you are . Our 2021 game was originally scheduled on a Saturday, but changed to a Sunday at the very last minute.

I've adjusted our embarrassing record to:

Have never beaten Gold Coast on a Saturday night which is the timeslot we have them in this year.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
