'Finey' on SEN the other night noted that Johannisen's win of the medal named after our greatest coach had added another aspect to our curse also named after him: we are - ironically - now the only team of the 'original' 12 not to have a Norm Smith Medallist since its1977 inception.

So, another 'record' to put on the (thankfully otherwise shortened in 2016) list?

And, by the way, when we do break it, I'm expecting it not to be of the Rioli/GazSnr/Buckley/Judd type!

Well apart from beating North Melbourne (god I want that one gone this year) we're into the business end of the records. With finals and things that have us at the northern part of the ladder.

I say we keep ticking them off until we get to the all important one.....

As an aside when was the last time we were in the 8 at the end of a round? Did it happen in 2010, it didn't happen at any time during Roosy's years as far as I know and it definitely didn't happen during Mark Neeld's tenure.

Really I thought the highest we ever got under Roos was 9th, always just missing out on the 8.

One we can break on Sunday - a win will mean we have two more wins than losses. That hasn't happened since the end of the 2006 season.

I believe we were in the 8 after Round 1, 2015 when we beat Gold Coast.

Other than that, not since Round 14 2011.

Happy to knock that one off, but would settle for winning the actual flag. From 8th would be fine!

In a similar vein, when did we last have a percentage as high as 133.33%?

Last year we were 9th after beating the giants and never got higher. The year before we were in the 8 after beating the Suns but fell straight out.

if we are going to have a goal we might as well have the ultimate one

I've got one to add...

The last time we beat the wooden spooners... Not since Roos has been at the club. Saints 2014, Blues 2015, Essendon 2016

In the past 5 years every team knew they can beat Melbourne. Even the spooners - it was their one genuine chance for a win.

I suspect that will change this year.

I initially read that as "sponsors". Talking of which, I noticed in Alan Richardson's press conference that Hankook Tyres now sponsors St Kilda. Does that mean we missed out or does it mean that our rates have risen and Hankook can't afford us? If it's the latter, it would suggest that we are now a more marketable club than St Kilda.

Has been discussed in the 'still no BOJ sponsor thread'. Apparently we fell out badly when they were our sponsor last and they won't come near us

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
