Casey Scorpions v Frankston - Round 1, 2015

KC from Casey

Recommended Posts

according to the commentators, grimes has been pretty lacklustre. simply hasn't been able to impose himself on the contest.

It hasn't look like that's been his role. His role seems to be drive from half back and he gave that in the 1st and 3rd quarters. I don't think he should be elevated over Michie and Toump today but I'd hardly call it lacklustre

From what I saw (not much) Toumpas and Stretch looked pretty good. And Fitzy was taking a lot of marks down back.

The commentators were getting the names wrong about 80% of the time which didn't make things easy.

I think I saw Pederson with a good run down tackle in the last quarter (resulted in a Grimes point). He's the logical replacement for Frost.

I got a good view of the pole in the middle of the screen - thought I was at Etihad.

Also the commentary was reminiscent of when the ABC uses the Adelaide commentators.

The thing I noticed the most was how good our rucks were with the tap outs but totally useless around the ground - can't take a mark to save themselves.

big win to casey.

hopefully this stream will become a regular occurrence (and actually be promoted).

I was listening to it on Casey Radio and it was only late in the match that they realised that the Scorpions website was streaming it live.

yep, agree with that.

saw most of the second half and the ones that looked impressive to me were michie, riley, fitzpatrick and pedersen, with stretch one for the future.

I thought the same. Michie stood out. Pedo sounded like he did his best work in the first half which I didn't see.

Grimes and Terlich still need to improve quite a lot with their kicking although it did look blustery.

Spencer is an absolute monster. Ragdolls men to make them look like children.

This! Agree 100% with these players...and Fitzy a bit of a surprise for mine...as for Grimes, still and iffy kick and decision making awful. Matt Jones the same. Perhaps Bail only marginally better...

Based on what I saw (most of the second half), nobody really put their hand up and demanded to be picked for the Dees against the Tiggs.. Casey's bigger bodies and fitness were decisive towards the end. Fitz looked like he could be a useful backup as a defender, and Stretcher shows promise.

Pleasantly surprised by Fitzpatrick. Looked solid.

Must be frustrating for these players though, as the match itself will always play a big part in what's possible for them to do. Toumpas looked to have it on a string there for a while, but then the game ended up being played around the Casey half-forward line, and he disappeared from view. Playing at a lower level like this must be frustrating at times - no point running to the right position time and time again, if your team mates can't hit you with their kicks. Hard going for more skilled players, while the more dogged players come into their own.

On the basis of a dodgy video feed, Mitchie, Riley, Toumpas looked decent. Not sure of any of the talls, none looked dominant. Not sure if we'll see Matt Jones or McKenzie back in the firsts, but Grimes looked like the senior player he is - even if he did miss a goal he should have scored.

I am not at all surprised at Fitzy, was hoping he would surprise some, spoke to him a couple of times, is actually enjoying his footy which is half the battle, and Rawlings is putting a lot of time and effort into him, could be a nice coaching move that no one saw coming

As for your second bit, if they don't put the effort in playing at a lower level, that is where they will stay

Agree - I just was trying (not very well I must admit!) to make the point that at this level of footy, skills and nous aren't always rewarded.

It's in part a response to the "he should be dominating at Casey" comments that pop up here not infrequently.

So what you're basically saying is we have pretty much no options coming through from Casey DoF other than Stretch maybe and he is a season or so away?

Sounds like we've already reached our limits in terms of what we will get out of the current list this season. Gawn takes a few grabs but it appears he can't hit the side of a barn door when shooting for goal.

That's drawing a very long bow Rusty. My comment about what I saw in in the second half clearly related to selections for next week, not about "what we will get out of the current list this season".

Yep, Pedersen was out there in the second half. Only saw him playing deep forward so he may have spent some time on the bench.

FWIW - in the second half I though Fitzpatrick, Michie, Riley and Toumpas looked very good.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
