I feel a little dirty giving this idea any oxygen, but here goes.

Jamar was crucial to victory today I thought. There is no way known you could go in with your proposed setup. Frost is new to the craft and Dawes has said himself that he's not suited to rucking. It's a recipe for disaster.

Just a passing notion!

Against a lesser ruck, if Frost proves his worth in there then we could go Gawn and Frost at times. Best way to get a (better) marking target forward and better run from our big fellas.

But Jamar's defensive positioning against Zac Smith deserves credit. Smith was a beast in presesaon with his mobility for a big man

If it ain't broke don't fix it, no changes, make Dawes and vince bash the door down

Sorry but Toumpas is broken and Vince is a gun, it's a no brainer inclusion.

Dawes is the hard one. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the VFL but I think JKH will be the unlucky one to make way for him.

Toump has to stay in if Roosy is fair dinkum. Salem and JKH a last year had multiple games with less possessions as the sub.

Who goes out for Vince then? Bernie is a required player and an important part of our side and someone has to make way. Toumpas is the logical choice.

We beat a side today that most experts are tipping for the top 8. I don't think it's a bad thing to not change a side that won so convincingly (no pun intended). Bernie and Dawes should be made to wait until as they would have to in any other Club.

I don't think it's a bad thing either, however Bernie was BOG at Casey today and is going to have more impact for us right now than Toumpas. Vince will get a run next week as his experience and skills are too important to us right now. Toumpas will get his chance, it just won't be right now.

Fair enough. Convincing argument Wisey. Just plays against Roosy's plans from last year. For the record, I think Bernie has to come in as well.

I think it does too, but someone has to make way. We have plenty of kids getting, finally, the right exposure to senior footy with the leaders around them that they need.

For the record I'd love to see the club back Toumpas and stick with him, but finally we have enough depth that he won't get that chance right now as there are too many ahead of him in the pecking order. His time will come.

do u guys actually want Jimmy Toumpas to make it as a player for the Dees? I agree Vince is a better pick for next week but Toump seems like the kinda guy that would benefit from feeling like he is apart of it and he should get better as his confidence grows. With that being said i have nfi how we are supposed to fit Dawes and Vince back in today was amazing!!

We all want Toump to make it

Personally I want him to play at Casey until he is tearing games to shreds week after week, then he should be considered him for selcetion

And I dont care if it takes a year, whats the rush/?

Surely it is a no-brainer.

Toumpas was the 22nd player selected purely because Bernie was underdone.

Only quandary is who goes out for Dawes.

As previously mentioned, (subject to Garlands fitness), the only candidate is Kent (and he would be unlucky).

You are probably right that Kent may be the player that would make way for Dawes, but I hope that's not the case. I think the combo of Garlett, Kent and JKH roaming at the feet of the talls is dangerous and allows us to put pressure on the opposition defence. Taking one away might hurt that and leave us playing a little too tall.

In: Vince, Dawes

Out: Toumpas, Frost

I advocated keeping Toumpas previously, but I can't see who else could go out on that performance. Despite the fumble I still think he's stiff.

Frost for Dawes only on team balance only. It has to be a tall and there are no other candidates. Don't know who rucks for 5 mins per quarter though. Hogan?

Is Vince "match ready"? I would love to see him in but really who deserves to go.

As for Dawes........suck it up. You got suspended for an undisciplined act. Who DESERVES to go from today's lineup?

Yep, we want to win games now. This means fielding the best side every week, no matter what; unfortunately that means dropping Toumpas till he proves himself in the VFL.

Bernie wouldn't he finished 3rd in the B&F last year. Tell me a team that wouldn't play a player that has finished as high as he did. 2 VFL game is more than enough match practice to get him through an AFL match.

Absolutely convinced that both Vince & Dawes should & will come in next week.

A no brainer that Toumpas will be one of the players to make way. The second player will be either JKH or Brayshaw and either player will be extremely unlucky.

Dawes is critical for structure and I believe Hogan, Watts, Garlett & VandenBerg will all benefit from Dawes playing.

If one of Kent or JKH make room for Dawes, then Frost needs to pay their role.

That's why I think Kent may be at more risk than jkh who is just that bit different physically (agility etc) while Kent is fast and strong, like Frost. JKHs agility and evasiveness are x factor qualities that Kent doesn't have (doubt get me wrong I love Kent but he has hard and tough as his x factor qualities which are covered by Frost).

Drop Kent? Please.

JKH? No way.

Both showed poise, were exciting, inventive, opened up the game and got their hands on it. They did lots of stuff that I've never seen Dawes do. He's a pillar for our forward line but he doesn't hunt the ball the way those two do, and it was a huge contributing factor to our win today.

Vince for Toumpas (anybody for Toumpas)

Either JHK or Frost for Dawes, depending on matchups

Interesting part will be who sub is....gonna be hard

Lamashtu I'm inclined to agree that dropping anyone will hurt what we did today. To me Dawes doesn't fit the football we played today, 2015 brand counter attack football, he fits 2010 brand compete at the boundary line and slow and steady defence football.

But he is our number one tall forward. I know Hogan will go past, maybe quickly, but Dawes is 26, in his prime and will be there 5 years. How will Dawes adapt to the new plans?

Still think this will become much clearer after tomorrow's match. Plenty to play out depending on injuries and whether Richo finds a way to shut down their run.

Same coach for GWS so theoretically their gameplan (whatever that is) won't be much different.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
