Was Toumpas's whole game bad, or did he just have one major blunder that tarnished the view? I had it in my head that he had a shocker, but now that the emotion has worn off a fraction, the only thing I can remember is the stuff-up that Lumumba fixed. He touched it 6 times with 14% time on ground and now I'm starting to doubt myself.

Need to see the replay, I think.

Every time he touched it he stuffed up. The handball in the goal square in the last quarter was a big blunder, but there were others.

The biggest thing he does is spend it before he has it. Still seems to lack confidence in his ability to avoid tacklers.

10 weeks at Casey where he'll have 20-30 each week then 10 weeks in the AFL side and we might have a player once he just plays footy instead of over-thinking it so much. He's hard to watch!

I will say one positive for him, before he came back on as the sub we were completely out of run. Once he came on the team seemed to find more run in general. His work rate seemed to lift all the others. His running to get deep forward in the last quarter was great stuff, the terrible handball in to the only opponent around wasn't.

I was expecting to see more of Lumumba today. Obviously he kicked a crucial goal but he couldn't seem to get into the game. Got pinged for holding the ball a couple of times. Not hating on him, if anything it means we'll be even better when he's in form.

Lumumba pinpointed several excellent passes coming out of the back line right in front of me in the 1st and 3rd quarters.

These were the kind of passes that last year would have gone out of bounds or to a contest where the ball went to ground.

He also laid a very timely shepherd in the last quarter that allowed the ball to be cleared from our defence when we really needed the momentum back.

Whilst I don't think he was at his absolute best today, he is still a class player and showed some great signs of what his value will be to our side.

Nah. You clearly have nfi. Zac Smith was moved to the forward line in favour of gorringe as he was smashed in the ruck by Jamar. But nice story but.

No, it was a good duel but Smith's ruck work set up some good opportunities for GC. He won the battle but only marginally.

I don't like to go to the stats but the ruck stats do tell the story.

I don't agree, I thought Jamar's ruckwork in the second quarter is part of what pushed the game in our favour.

I'm not sure we are going to be able to go all year with Frost as the second ruckman though.

I thought Jamar was good today and his battle with Smith was a highlight. The post was more in answer to another poster who said Jamar smashed Smith. You could have called that one either way, the stats show it to Smith and I thought he just got the points.

The mistake was because of lack of confidence, not lack of skills...i wouldn't look too much into it either...

& if true, this is why he needs more time, and players looking to get him into the game. good teams do this for struggling teammates.

The thing that really impressed me today was noticeable drop in momentum killing kicks and clankers.

Lumumba's ability to bounce back from a contest is amazing. He'll be up in the air then next second he'll be back on the ball and getting it out. Same with a tackle etc. He seems on a higher level athletically than pretty much everyone on our list.

I don't want to turn this in to a race based thread but so many of the great athletes of the world have African heritage. Majak Daw hasn't been a great success but his athleticism is super.

I hope these Northern state academies and TAC clubs are working hard enough to crack in to the Sudanese and other African migrants in Australia. AFL players are only getting fitter and faster, the Dees could get ahead of the curve I reckon. Lumumba in full flight is a joy to watch, we need another couple of super fast, fit and agile half back/wing types to keep improving.

No way! Frost was very good, did better than expected in the ruck and has physicality and [censored] about him. That spear tackle he laid in the centre square was brilliant.

There was a 5-10 minute patch when we gave up 3 goals. But I can take one of them a game if it's not the usual 8 goal runs we concede.

Yep Bernie will add a lot of class. We have to bring him in after a BOG performance in the VFL. With Dawes, like BBO said, it depends on GWS'S structure.

Today went a small way toward ending the pessimistic mindset I've acquired in the last 8 years. Plenty more performances like today before I can erase the accumulated scars of the last near decade but today was definitely a step in the right direction. Three times I thought we were going to get overrun and three times we steadied and kicked away. Whenever we've been challenged in the past we've surrendered quicker than a French president, can't really believe the resilience we showed today, resilience!, us!, can't believe it.
