FAREWELL JEREMY HOWE

What

Recommended Posts

just figured it out, no combination of picks 26 (Coll), 28 (Ade), or 29 (PA) equates to more points than pick 8. Shame

But what about all three for 8 and Bugg and maybe Tomlinson. Those 3 picks are well above 8. Maybe we throw in a very late pick.

People are drastically undervaluing Howe here. Have a look at the trades that have gone through so far. It's clear that nobody rates this year's draft. North Melbourne just gave up their first round pick for a 21 year old who's played 10 games. Howe is a 100 game player with multiple clubs chasing him. If the Pies want him they can give us a first round pick. It's that simple. None of this rubbish of the club bending over backwards putting together a five club trade to net a bundle of second and third round selections. In this year, with this draft, he is worth the Pies' first round pick and it isn't our problem if they want to use it for someone else. If the Pies won't put up a reasonable offer, we simply tell Howe and his manager that they aren't willing to offer what he's worth and he'll have to go with someone else.

Agree if Jed Anderson is worth a first rounder on potential then so is Howe on actual form in the present currency, anyway. I am tending toward forcing the GCS deal and if he vetoes that, we just drop him into the draft, the alternative of dealing with the Pies means we wouldn't be losing much doing that.

Cannot believe all the disharmony amongst the supporters on here. Melbourne has a clear plan and they keep reiterating it, trying to bring in players that have been developed and been in the system for a few years now.

Yes it would be great to land these Big fish or A graders and I can guarantee we are trying to lure one but unfortunately we are just not quite there yet, give it another year of the draft and natural improvement amongst our list and we will be a destination club.

There is no quick fix here we have tried that (moneyball) and it just doesn't work. I'm very optimistic about the clubs strategy and as hard as it is to say we just need to be patient.

If we can land 2 top 10 picks that will be enormous and I believe that's along the lines of what the club is trying to achieve.

Pretty sure Howe, as a potential key position player, is a first rounder.

Especially when Redden is a straight swap for one, and North gave up their first rounder for Anderson (with an exchange of later picks).

Reddens a way better player than Howe, and in this draft pick 17 was a fair trade for him.

But pick 15 for Jed Anderson..... thats a terrible trade by North and yet another gift to the Hawks.

Let's say for a second Howe is worth a first rounder on his own - how do we get it? The Pies have none as they try and get both Treloar and Aish. If the suggested four way deal comes in to play then Port are out as well with their picks tied up in a potential deal for Dixon, while I don't see us getting the Crows pick either as it doesn't seem as though, at this point, there is a whole lot going in their direction.

I'm not saying he isn't worth a late first rounder on his own, it's just that we face a battle to be able to get one.

Either way, a precedent has been set. Also with the Hawks offering two first round picks for Carlisle. It seems abundantly clear that outside the top half-dozen or so picks nobody really rates the players in this draft, so players are going at premium prices. We need to be sure to factor that in to Howe's price and be sure to get value for him. Especially since doing so could mess with Collingwood's ability to bring in the raft of quality players they are trying to snare.

Every team so far to trade high end draft picks are the teams that believe they are in premiership contention, don't believe it's all down to the weakness of the draft. For what it's worth I think the top 20-30 will be quite strong on talent

Ask Richmond if they'd be interested in Howe & Grimes for Picks 12 & Todd Elton?

Odd trade I know. But you never know what way Richmond may go....

I think we can rule out that sort of stuff. Howe wants to go to the Pies, and I believe the only other club with serious interest now is GC, who we are of course happy to deal with. The other clubs won't factor in to it like you've outlined above.

I have no idea what your fascination is with mediocre fringe players are though mate. Todd Elton? You must be seriously disappointed Daniel Currie is off to GC instead of us for a packet of crisps.

Don't worry Wiseblood, you and I feel the same about Elton.

Only reason I put his name in there was I figured to balance the trade out there needed to be another component. Would have said Pick 70 but that has been traded to GWS. Only other option I could think of was Hampson!

Maybe we just overrate Howe?

Possibly.

Has he done more across 100 games than Melksham has? You could easily argue that he hasn't. He's taken plenty of great grabs and kicked a few goals... but he's done little else. I have a feeling most Melbourne supporters will initially be disappointed with what we get for him in terms of a trade, but I think in the long run we'll come out looking just fine.

You don't go into a trade looking to break even. We're after a profit here. GC have offered a really good deal for him. We need to get at least as good a deal from Collingwood. We have a golden opportunity here to get back some of the credit we lost in the Dawes and Lamumba trades where we paid Collingwood far too much for players they didn't want anyway. This time we have a player we would be happy to keep, who is an automatic selection in our first side, and people are talking about letting him go for LESS than we paid for either Dawes or Lamumba in a very weak draft year. This is the best opportunity we will see this year to get a decent return on a trade. We need to capitalise on it.

I'm after the glory of taking speccies in front of 50,000+ instead of 15,000 - Jeremy Howe

lol then thoroughly disappoint your teams members by kicking it directly to the opposition for a goal.

Melbourne offered what We thought he was worth not what his managers inflated opinion was of his value. I think the market has spoken loud and clear on his value, a few sides as usual prepared to pay overs to help their premiership hopes, otherwise his salary would be a bit less. He is going where his ego can get a good stroking from his loving coach, well that was the sales pitch anyway. It will be interested to see how he goes with Elliott and cloak, etc up forward or is it running around all day on the wing? I hope he also remembers there are a lot of Collingwood fans who will be mighty [censored] if he does not deliver and they are not afraid of telling him so every day of his Collingwood life.

The Age is reporting: Collingwood and Melbourne were also locked in negotiations over what could become a multi-club deal for Jeremy Howe to move to Collingwood, Jimmy Toumpas to move to Port Adelaide, Paul Seedsman to Adelaide and Ben Kennedy to the Demons. A complicated exchange of second and third round draft picks is also involved in the mega deal.

Jack Nial and Emma Quayle have been spot on so far so no reason to doubt them.

So much for Mahoney saying last night that Kennedy and Howe would be separate deals!

No matter what the exchange of later picks is, losing both Toumpas and Howe for a kid who has barely played and some picks does not fill me with any joy...

...yes I know, your advice is to wait till officially announced...sure!

Footnote: the article says Treloar and Aish to Pies deals almost done.

I reckon that is where Pies good picks have gone...I guess we get the dregs...yes I know wait till the deal is done etc etc etc

Ok, so this is what I'm hoping will be the case for it to potentially work for us if it's a 4 club multi trade and Mahoney to keep his word re: Kennedy being seperate and still allowing us to work with Gold Coast.

Firstly let's say the Treloar deal is Collingwood's Pick 7 & 2016 1st Rounder to GWS for Treloar & Pick 27.

Then the Aish deal is Oxley & Pick 26 to Brisbane for Aish and a late Pick.

Melbourne trade out Howe, Toumpas & Pick 46

Collingwood trade out Seedsman, Pick 27 (from GWS) & Pick 47

Port Adelaide trade out Pick 29 & 50

Adelaide trade out Picks 28 & 52.

Melbourne gain Picks 27, 28 & 29

Collingwood gain Howe, Pick 50 & 52

Port Adelaide gain Toumpas & Pick 47

Adelaide gain Seedsman & Pick 46

Melbourne can then:

Trade Picks 27, 28 & 29 (2033 points) to GWS for Pick 8 & 41-They're likely to get from Carlton (1963)

Trade Picks 6 & 8 (3302) to Gold Coast for Picks 3 & 16 (3301)

Trade Pick 41 to the Filth for Kennedy

Trade Grimes & Pick 64 to Richmond who trade Pick 31 to GWS for Bugg & Pick 66 to us

Go to the draft with Pick 3 (Parish/Curnow/Francis), Pick 16 (Bonner), 66 (Vandenberg Promotion), 82 (Harmes promotion)

Pick up a couple of De-listed free agents, two rookies and away we go.

Edit: Added Richmond to Grimes trade as they were linked at the start of the week.

Interesting. I'd love to get Rioli with that pick 16 if he was still available.

Forget picks. Get a player for howe and not kennedy. Howe and third round for kennedy and freeman as an example.

Not sure this post makes sense at all. "Get a player for Howe and not Kennedy" then you go on to say we should trade Kennedy in along with freeman

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
