FAREWELL JEREMY HOWE

Featured Replies

Viney will be well suited to match Priddis in terms of how they play their game. If he can do as good a job on Priddis as he did on Selwood, it'll go a long way to helping us win the match. Keen to see this contest.

I think Vince will play on Priddis and Viney on Shuey.

I would look to start centre bounces with Nathan Jones loose in defence if NicNat starts to dominate the clearances.

Couldn't think of a more worse thing to do.

Forgot Viney, he's the one likely to run with Priddis. Should be interesting to see who can go lower and harder at the ball.

No contest!

Yes you can --- just need to think a little harder. Viney in the ruck and Hogan loose behind the ball, for example ... :):)

Jake Spencer as a small forward?

Is it possible that Howe played a good game against Geelong (not just played his role, but actually played a good game) and simultaneously Roos is trying to 'up his value'?

Yes, of course, and I suspect that may well be what is happening.

If he doesn't sign can we send him back to Port Arthur in chains or has that rule been removed?

Yes. Two seconds before Sylvia left, Roos said that he was a "required player" and that Melbourne could hardly afford to lose players with Colin's experience. At the time I remember thinking that he wasn't going anywhere.

Mitch Clark was the best player on Melbournes list according to Roos and Chip, our AA full back, was talked up too.

In return we have got Vince, Lumumba and Brayshaw. None of the Melbourne players who left are playing at the moment.

Whilst obviously Roos can't see into the future re injuries, he is good at this stuff and it wouldn't surprise me if he was talking Howe up for negotiations with other clubs at the end of the year. If Howe had of finished the game with zero possessions I reckon Roos may have had him in contention for Brownlow votes

And yet people continue to fall for the spin every time. We're playing our hands professionally these days. Of course we're not going to [censored] all over a player's trade value by playing him in the 2's or talking him down in a press conference. We'll do the complete opposite.

Maybe it was a turning point for Jeremy where he committed to the new team plan and his role in it.

Believing in the direction and prospects of the MFC going forward, would be the biggest factor in deciding to stay or go, if I was in Jeremy's shoes.

He looked pretty detached to me, but I guess you can read that stuff any way you want.

I'm inclined to think if Roos starts making out-of-the-blue compliments about Howe's form then he's most likely gone, especially if he isn't even pressed about him specifically by a journo.

Roos worked in the media and knows exactly what he's doing to get a player's trade value up. The way he played the Frawley situation last year was undoubtedly to ensure best compensation possible.

The dude was offered 700k per year to play in a side that has the talent to win five flags in a row, he has been gone ever since that offer.

I have found it interesting that Roos has shifted him back to the forward line. What's his (PR) number 1 mantra? Defence. Where did he play Frawley, a known defender, for most of the year when there were serious questions about him staying? Forward. Why? So he can get his defence settled and learning to play with each other.

For the past 12-18 months, Howe has been playing in defence. Over the past few weeks, he has shifted him back forward. Why? So he can again get his back line settled so that they play bulk games with each other, setting them up for a big 2016.

Roos wants his backline settled as quickly as possible. We have McDonald, Dunn and Jetta as locks. When fit, he will add Frost to that. We have two vacant spots. His sheer disappointment with the injuries of Garland and Salem is telling me that they are his preferred two. Because of those injuries, he's had to play H there, which is not where he wants him (wants him in the midfield). If Howe was part of Roosy's future, he'd be playing in the backline.

For those that don't agree, let's look at the forward line. Lock in Hogan, Dawes, Garlett, Watts and Kent, we have one main position to fill. With Petracca coming in next year, and JKH returning from injury soon, where does Howe fit in?

I've said for a long time, Howe has the greatest trade value for us, especially when comparing it to onfield output. We have the potential of bringing in another role player and/or a young midfielder, all from a bloke that hasn't cemented a position, and someone that I would consider "depth".

In a few months, it may be proven that I am way off the mark, and will happily admit that I was wrong if this transpires. However, I don't think I'm far off the mark at all.

Howe and our first pick for Treloar and a second round pick (I know they have theirs tied up with the academy guys but they can probably get another one for Plowman or someone like they did for O'Rourke last year).

I would almost do Howe and our first round pick just for Treloar.

I think you're drawing a long bow. Howe has been moved forward out of necessity. Initially Dawes was out, then Hogan and Pedersen. Roos is all about the forwards making a contest to at least bring the ball to ground. An additional ruckman was brought in last week to assist with this in the absence of Hogan and Pedersen. Howe is the only natural forward left on our list. He had to play forward.

I did consider that, mo64. Let's wait to see how the rest of the year pans out.

If he's worth 700K a year to them it should be a straight swap with Treloar ;)

I would almost do Howe and our first round pick just for Treloar.

So would I.

Hey RPFC, care to explain his stellar effort this week?

Gone from "best zero disposal half I've seen" to "f**king hopeless" with his 8 disposal, zero tackle effort tonight.

Soemone in the media mentioned the other day about Howe's manager shopping him around for about 650k and said there is no way Howe should get paid more than Dan Hannebery. Which is true. No way he should.

I said it in the Match Day thread. Howe is a disgrace to the jumper. His work rate is non existent for the majority of the time.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
