The only best 22 definites (if eligible) at present for me are as follows:

FB: Jetta Dunn *****

HB: Salem Tommy HL

C: Vince Jones Viney

HF: Watts Dawes Howe

FF: Jeffy Hoges *****

R: Jamar Tyson Cross

Not sure where Watts and Howe will line up but they are definitely in for my liking.

Frost, Garland, Grimes, Toump, Gawn, Pedo, Kent, Bail, Newton, JKH, Matt Jones, Viv and Brayshaw can all fight to the death for the last couple spots and for the pine.

And Vandenburg.

And quite possibly Stretch.

Good summation and agree with your definites. Some quality players competing for the remaining spots.

The ones I would choose at this stage are Garland, Gawn, Newton, Toumpas, Kennedy-Harris and Kent.

FB: Jetta Dunn Garland

HB: Salem T.McDonald Howe

C: Vince Jones Toumpas

HF: Watts Dawes Kent

FF: Garlett Hogan Gawn

R: Jamar Tyson Cross

Int: Lumumba Viney Newton (Kennedy-Harris)

But we all know Grimes will play. How to squeeze him in is the problem, especially if we finally have found a quality distributor in Salem.

Frost will also be strongly pushing his case I suspect.

I would put Pedo at half forward in the empty space because he can help Jamar with say 10% of the ruck work and Grimes in the back pocket for his experience.

Quite a few posters have omitted Lumumba. Surely a walk up start?

Every team listed has Lumumba.

H, HL, Prince and Lamumba are all Lumumba.

Lumumba and Viney on the pine. I would have Lumumba starting instead of Howe and Salem off half back. Viney definitely over Toumpas.

Doesn't make a great deal of difference if starting or on the pine these days. You're not there for long.

Going by Roos' comments, Prince will have a variety of roles as a utility off half back, through the middle and around stoppages. So not entirely sure where to place him, just that he plays.

Toumpas can provide a bit of outside run (going by his fitness reports) and whilst he has his critics, we need elite kicks of the footy as badly as Kamichael Hunt needs a decent lawyer. He's in my side for Round 1, NAB form pending.

NAB from means FA to me and always has, I would agree to paying Toumpas and I say okay him for the entire year no matter how bad his form is, at least by the end of 2015 we will know where we are at with him, he has had a full preseason after all, no excuses now.

a Yeah but stil l I would like to see Lumumba and Viney both on the ground when they bounce the ball round 1, both absolute competitors and will be vital to the dees in '15.

Guys like Frost, Newton and M.Jones could also find their way in the 22. The NAB Cup will be interesting to watch.

NAB form isn't the be all and end all. But it's an indicator. You'd rather Toumpas play well than not, especially when he has something to prove in 2015.

I agree that Toumpas needs to be given full opportunity to show his wares, but I wouldn't give him a cart blanche for the entire year. Every player need to earn their spot. If he isn't performing then he goes to Casey and fights for his spot. Hopefully he hits the ground running.

Fair call. Main thing is they are both comfortably best 22.

Yeah I agree with you mate... I don't like seeing people play half the year at Casey and half the year in the red and blue, it's hard to know what sort of year they have had. We need to take the approach we have nothing to loose but everything to gain in 2015.

I'm worried about Toumpas is 2015, if he has a bad year, the pressure is on him and it will be a big challenge to him whether he can live up to expectations or not.

Hype?

It's a fantasy footy article..

Yeah I know, and i hate fantasy footy,

But it says hes one of the most popular picks in fantasy footy sides, why would that be?

Unlike most, I'm not convinced about Kent as a mid just yet, and I believe that JKH has greater potential to be a mid. He'd be battling with M.Jones for a spot on the bench.

Rotations:

Grimes rotates with Jetta, Lumumba, Salem.

Cross rotates with N.Jones, Tyson, Viney.

M.Jones rotates with Toumpas, Newton, Vince.

Gawn rotates with Jamar, Dawes, Hogan.

N.Jones, Tyson, Viney have spells in the forward line.

Lumumba, Newton, Vince, JKH, Cross all being part of the midfield rotation.

So if this is supposed to be based on pre-season form, why do people have Vince in their team ?

All he's done is run laps !

Because he'd still be more useful than some of the other options.

I doubt that he'll play round 1, but he's a certainty to be picked if fit.

It means he should earn people some money in fantasy footy compared to other similarly priced rookies, which can simply mean he will get gametime. I wouldn't label it as "hype".

I think it's a big year for Kent to establish himself. I don't see him as a walk up for game one unless he has some impressive NAB form.

You don't rate Bail despite him playing most games last season?

In a team that won four games it is not that big of a wrap BM.

Would he get a game at the 16 sides above us?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
