Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I thought Dom signed with us for 4? Not sure though.

That will be even better as a new 2 year contract signs him up till 2019!

Be it to end of 2018 or 2019 it is another good sign that our young brigade are happy to sign up for several years, post Roos as coach.

I would fight to retain the bolded but the other 8 have a bit of work to do.

I realise Harmes will have his chance in the coming weeks.

M Jones and Terlich are prime candidates to be paid out... Especially if Riley, Harmes, and Howe show something in the last 9 games.

M Jones & Terlich will not be paid out both are sitting on between $250-300 k per year, that's a lot of money to tip down the drain...

It'll depend entirely on what Taylor has lined up in the draft and what players we're working on to move to the MFC.

We won't delist and payout (ala Evans) unless we think the draft goes deep or need the list space.

Fighting for Riley but not Howe?

That surprises me.

I'd happily see Howe go, but he has some currency.

What is it that you see in Riley?

I see absolutely the right attitude, but I'm not sure I see a lot more.

He assists to build the culture we want, but I'm not sure that his onfield value is all that high, his tank being his greatest limitation.

I assume Howe will be shipped out from what I have seen so far.

Riley gives you attack on the footy and hard tackling pressure as a baseline, I am partial to players like that at this club.

Um, Howe did play well in his 0 disposal half.

Again - admitted bias being a CHF - but he hit packs, chased blokes, got to contests, and rarely allowed Geelong's defenders to have an easy grab and a switch to the other flank (all our forwards did this really but Howe was the focal point at FF in replace of Hogan).

Forwards are measured in goals scored and I get that but as someone who has to kick goals, compete so that others can kick goals, and organise the mess of the forward line - I can tell you that Roos wasn't blowing smoke; he liked the way Howe didn't go up looking for touches or slide off a pack looking for a spill when he was charged with the spilling.

You can tell me it's all just 'to get his value up' but don't be so basic with your thinking around forwards.

I assume Howe will be shipped out from what I have seen so far.

So, are you saying what we saw three weeks ago against Geelong was a once-off?

but you dont want to punish the club for bad mistakes made earlier. either way its wasted money as they are not good players and most likely neither will play a game in 2016 unless 3/4 of our list is injured

id rip the bandaid off now and free the list up. this recruiting team is on fire with late picks and rookies so the more spots the better

I don't rate Garland. He has ok skills and is a decent kick, but I believe we look a much better team without him playing.

One of our biggest issues is our lack of drive off half back. Whenever there is a bit of momentum coming off half back and the ball lands in his hands, the whole game grinds to a halt. Many of our younger players turn quickly and look to move it on. Lumumba also does this (albeit, not particularly well at times), but Garland just seems to freeze, letting the opposition reorganise. It's very frustrating, especially when we start to lose our sting and begin to turn it over. This might have something to do with the "mental scarring" or however Roos wants to label it, but I think Frost or someone with a similar skill set who looks to take the game on is a better option for the team structure.

I wouldn't be disappointed if we looked to trade out. Hopefully we can nab a high second rounder.

Fair call - maybe it could be good for us. We also have the benefit of several defenders too - would probably want a replacement for him though. Tallish who can play small - but has run and carry. H and Dunn only have a handful of years left so need to make sure we have a group of players that can take us deep into finals in say 3-4 years time.

I think we won't be so active in the trade/draft period this year, especially if the draft is shallow. If Harmes performs, I expect he and Van Demon will be permanently upgraded, and with the return of Petracca and possibly Trengove, our first two retirements/delistings are already taken care of. Hunt has the rest of the season at Casey to show his stuff, and if he does well he'll be retained. King and White certain to be retained on the rookie list. We will aim for a player + pick trade for another good midfielder.

I expect McKenzie, Riley and Bail to be delisted and Jamar to either retire or walk to another club - band 3 compensation at best. There won't be many spots left for drafting - just topping up our rookies.

Jamar

Gawn

Fitzpatrick

Pedersen

(King ®)

Spencer the only member of the ruckable brigade signed beyond this year but as a 2016 free agent vulnerable to early offers. Are we waiting to see if the AFL will scrap ball-ups altogether in favour of scrums? It seems our juggle may be interdependent on the moves/form of each player and what may spring up during the trade season, but with Gawn susceptible to poaching and Jamar free to walk, we could find ourselves in a bind.

Rightly or wrongly Grimes is a former captain of the club. He is clearly not part of the list moving forward and doesn't fall under depth player as it seems our kids will be given games before he gets another look in. Would anyone trade for him, I think it's unlikely. Assuming his contract was front loaded are we better off coming to an agreement at years end. Let's be realistic, the top clubs are ruthless hence that's why they're on top.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
