Jeff garlett to kick 30 plus goals

That would hardly be a surprise given he has kicked 40 or over in 3 seasons....

Over 100 and no mention of Col Sylvia, surely this is his year.

If only he gets a pre-season....

I have a feeling that we're going to see the introduction of a fast, linebreaking HBF with a good boot on him this season. I'm not sure which option it will be though. Hunt or White, either one will make me happy.

Hunt. You heard it from me (after Ralph narrowed it down to two). I think I mentioned previously that Jayden is the nephew of former Dee Andy Moir.

And a graduate from the same school as Watts and Dawes, who will be sharing the forward line!

I'm not too sure, but I have an inkling that it may have been due to the fact that Carlton had a functioning, talented and deep running midfield..

Just a thought though..

(But seriously, if Garlett kicks close to 30-40 goals from our midfield next year, I'll be unbelievably surprised to say the least).

For those predicting Garlett's total for the end of the year, did you happen to glimpse our inside 50 average for last year?

Our midfield, (which will supply Garlett) still has a LONG way to go going by last year's form.

Garlett is a dangerous acquisition but he's going to need the ball to come his way quickly and often if he's going to kick 30+ goals.

I think with Dawes leading so far up the ground{creating space}and the coach using forwards to help clog up midfield {we need that to help our mids}Jeffy will kick 30.

He probably had some off field issues and also didnt want to play MMs defensive first role.

PR will let that non-defensive attitude remain if he kicks goals.

Win for us this pick up.

So you're confident we'll see a dramatic improvement in ball movement, inside 50 count, metres gained etc?

Basically our midfield will have to be tracking the same as what Carlton's was when Garlett was kicking those bags in 2010, 11 and 13. Carlton finished 8th, 5th and 8th those years. Judd won a brownlow during one of those seasons.

I think you're being a bit unrealistic 'jnrmac'.

My previous predictions include Tappy, Sylvia and Fitz. Hopefully I'm not providing a curse here.

My prediction for the surprise packet is Gawn. He dominated the VFL last year clunking grabs everywhere. I think its time for him to start clunking a few in the ones.

I like it how Jamar isnt giving up his spot without a massive fight. Will make Gawn and the Snake lift and work harder.

"I think Toumpas will be the surprise packet of 2015, because of how widely he has been written off as another high pick failure. "

Now that is strangely twisted logic Just WOW!

Hahaha, I know it does worry me but surely I am due for one!!

I should have placed the 'surprise packet expectations' on Clark, Scully, Bennell, Pettard and Stef!

Actually he has got off fairly easy. Toumpas is really only maligned amongst the Melbourne supporters.

Opposition supporters aren't as invested in our success, so they tend to be a bit more forgiving.

I hope these players just realise how fickle us supporters are though. It only takes one good game and we are back singing their praises.

It would appear someone is yet to master the quote button. I however recognise that as my statement so let me explain it in simpler terms for you.

Toumpas has been dismissed by many as another Melbourne drafting blunder, including many of our own supporters. Hence, if he is considered a wasted pick, then were he to have a breakout season, it would come as a surprise to all those non-believers.

Let me know if I need to break it down further.

I think its a stretch to say he can't kick 40 goals unless our midfield is the same as Carltons.

I also think we will see a dramatic improvement in our midfield performance. We were ahead in 10 games in the last quarter in 2014. We weren't that far off winning quite a few more games. We are fitter this year, our game plan/ball movement from training looks like it has more purpose and have more players available at this stage than we did last year. ANd hopeflly we will have some decent big bodied fwds for Jeff to run around.

So don't put words in my mouth. When I say I will be happy but not surprised thats what I mean.

A trifle rude mate

Play the ball (issue) not the dlander

Cheers

You are not just a great photographer, ThreeOnesix.

And I'm going to go with Jnrmac on this one after having watched some of

our very good quarters this year on Fox recently and knowing that our players are a year older and understanding the game plans and what is required of them,

I don't think we are that far off. Kicking 6 in a row against Port or those consecutive goals against Essendon shows me there is something there - just gestating.

Even the most intelligent posters get sucked in to seeing things from how they were in the previous year.

In fact in the Daniher years of making the 8 on alternate years our price for the 8 was a generous $4.00 or thereabouts after not making it the previous year.

(Not worth placing a bet after those years we did make the 8.)

Factoring in the fact that I don't understand how footy has changed so much in that time, though I know it has, I still think that $13 for the Dees to make the 8 is pretty good at the moment. I've had a nibble :)

Two of our main Onballers this year will have more than 20 games under their belts at the beginning of the season which they didn't have last year. With our now well heralded additions I think this could kick in to start making a real significant change creating perhaps the introduction of those arrogant/confident qualities that teams have when they just all become fascinated with how good they could become; you can just feel the difference in that vibe.

Oh, and knowing how early draft picks have had genuine input over the last few years I can see either or both Petracca or Brayshaw who only missed out on being drafted

by a week or two the previous draft, and with their developed bodies, won't influence games this year. Just sharing where my dreams are coming from.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
