Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Grandson of a gun

Recommended Posts

Well, I thought I had a bit of free time so I might pop down, I only live 15 minutes walk from Goschs and the G that is why I can get there so often

Ball work day today, so not much running (apart from in the drills), there didn't seem to be anybody missing

Rehab group was Spencer, Riley, Stretch, Trengove, Vandenberg, Watts and Kent, joined for this session by Tommy Mc, Salem and Jetta

Spoke to both Nev Jetta and Salem, nothing sinister, just a bit of tightness after training on Monday, so light duties, Nev also was hoping to play in scratch match on Friday, reckons he owes Jimmy Toumpas one, found out why he had an issue a couple of weeks ago, after Toump shirtfronted him and tackled him, Sam Frost fell across his arm

Spoke to Aidan Riley, has been on a specific program to give him a base fitness level which he lost when he broke his leg, also working on making sure the leg can get through a full season, he says it has taken this long for him to feel confident with it

Also spoke to Bernie Vince, back doing most of the drills, no contact though, and has to remember to not snatch at high marks just yet, he can mark but only when he has time to set himself

Garlo was the volunteer for the 'guns' photo this week, but being Tasmanian he only went with one arm

Toumpas and Dunn were missing on Monday as they had an 'indoor' program, like I keep saying, Misson as total control now and the whole process is so much more professional, watched the rehab group, Alex who was running had the whole program for all of them written out and he just kept calling out what was next and who it involved

Roos very vocal today when one of the drills was not to his liking

Six was there so we should get some photos, mine will be on Twitter Demonpk

Any questions feel free

Thanks TDI.

How much do the new draftees integrate into drills with the main group? Do they still predominantly work separately or are they spending a larger % of their time working with the rest of the list?

Today they integrated, apart from Stretch, Petracca rolls around the ground like a tank, he is quite fast when he gets rolling, Neal-Bullen looks the junior athlete he was/is, White has a booming left leg as reported, Brayshaw just looks like a footy player and Oscar Mc has a good kick on him

Other things you notice Fitzy justs stands on his left leg and Jack Viney on his right.

I got a quick lesson in the Maths of goalkicking from Fitzy, if you are to the left of the goal you can bend it with your right, if you are on the run on the left going away from goal, then checkside it, on the right hand side, you can checkside if close enough in and on the correct angle

Other noticeable thing, Chunk Jones, Cross and Lumumba seem to be building up a good understanding around the stoppages

How much is Goodwin doing? And what sort of things do you see him doing?

He does of a lot of observing, but over the course of the week, he works with Ben Mathews on stoppages and positioning, has been doing at least one drill a session with the new guys on positioning and body work, today he also did stoppage work from a boundary throw with most of the midfield group

Whenever I read jesseBhogan I see Jesse Bogan (silent H)

TDI if feeling brave you should mention it to him. You do have medical insurance don't you?

Good old Fitzy. Expert on checksides. Incapable of kicking a fluent drop punt and unable to mark. A 6'6 crumbing forward/ruckman.

You will be pleased to know throughout the whole session he only put one ball down, amazing what can happen when the shoulder issues you have had since you were drafted are now fixed, he was kicking well today as well, he just loves the checkside, this will be his first full pre season if he gets through unscathed, let's wait and see

Thanks TDI for the report and pics on Twitter. Very much appreciative of all who give training reports given I am laid up for a while and can't get there myself. Thanks for keeping it on topic too.

I like many believe the key to improvement next year will be midfield depth and improvement (as well as the forwards being consistently available). Hence I am interested to hear about the blokes we are looking to step up this year namely-

Michie, Newton, Riley as well as the 2nd and 3rd year players in Kent, Toumpas, Salem, Viney et al.

How are they looking/training and any impressions on development/improvement from last pre season.

Thanks again.

I think many underestimate Fitz. He still is very young for a tall and has had health/injury issues. With further development and support could be very very handy.

I think so too. I believe he was a champion hurdler as a teen.

Explosive big men don't grow on trees. If his shoulder has been hampering him as Saty suggests he could surprise a few this year. He may look unco but he seems to kick goals.

Fitzy has all of the tools to become a cult hero, just needs to mature and build some consistency.

Health and age aren't excuses for lacking the skills required to play AFL. Despite years on the list he hasn't improved his marking or kicking techniques to anywhere close to AFL level. They still stand out at training as being below par.

With increased fitness and strength from a good preseason he should improve, but he's just too flaky to pick as a key forward I believe. If a preseason improves his ability to compete in the ruck I'd like to see him challenge Pedersen for that second ruck spot

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
