i suppose essendon could just claim they can't field a fully fit team and concede the game

It could open them up for damages claims. TV broadcasters may want some compensation.

Posted

Apparently the rest of the essendon list are going to "stand in solidarity" and boycott the nab cup if the suspensions arent lifted.

so if they are suspended and can't play they are going to protest by suspending themselves and not play.

Yeah - I get that.....

if they haven't got 22 fit (un sanctioned ) players they can't field a team,full-stop

whether the afl would have to pay some compo would depend on the tv rights contract details.

it might mean the afl get a lesser amount in their tv payments or maybe not, that's business

Boycott the NAB cup, miss out because they a are provisionally suspended its all the saame result.

Extremely dissapointing that league officials haven't clarified the situation to the public and have instead allowed the media to run wild.

This all reminds me of a scenario whereby Burglars upon having broken into a house by breaking a window to gain entry are set upon by the house woofer who stirred from its slumber bit the crooks and they stumbled in their hasty exit only to cut themselves upon the broken glass and then seek to sue the house owners for pain suffering etc !!

These bastards continually make out they are hard done by victims...*&@! them , the lot of them and especially Hird and cohorts.

Reap what you sow fools !!

James Hird is the real hero, what people need to realise is that asada has no right to prevent essendon players from taking banned and potentially dangerous substances and compromising the integrity of the entire competition. That would be bullying, asada clearly have a personal vendetta against hird, which is probably to do with his glorious hair, seriously if little can rise above petty jealousy so can you asada.

Beeb, I think the clubs may well have to file their teams but that is in order to field them.

I love typos!

I hate Essundone.

Gotta feel sorry for their first and second year players, all this talk of boycotting would not be boding well for their development and careers. Surely another consequence that will bite them in the butt years down the Track!

Beeb, I have been reading yours posts for ages. And only now have I read and understood your signature. Funny how we read things and sometimes do not fully understand. My comprehension levels must be worse than I thought.

As essendon would be all to aware the players have a contractual agreement with the afl and to boycott the NAB cup might well lead to a seperate punishment and not even slow down asada.

I really think this is just drunken robbo spreading his red wine enlightenment.

The Essendon threat is another furphy. Many won't see it for what it is. They are not giving anything up or risking anything and they're playing on the footy public's veracious appetite for the sport. The telling point through this whole saga is that most don't want to see the season disrupted (that's non Essendon supporters)

The way the game is played now why would a club risk injury to any of their players in these practice games? Why is it still called a cup anyway? We're not playing for a cup any longer. What cup?

We're now getting a lot of the clubs giving their players a 'bye' during the season to save their legs - that's apart from the fixtured bye. Teams assured of a spot within the 8 will rest players when it suits. The players are now trained to a point where it's now a matter of "plug in and play"

It's no surprise that the story was "broken" by Robbo. He's essentially become their head of media relations since this whole saga began. I'd like to see them try this because they won't win any friends at the AFL, and it'll just cause more backlash for the players and club.

So fricken sick of this, Hird's dragged it out based on his own ego and now is bringing the players to his level by trying to create a "woe is me" situation. That said I admire the players claim to want to protect the identities of those facing the music. Feels like they're drawing out the inevitable though.

I am always amazed at this situation.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out 90% of them. If my memory is correct didn't the HUN publish the list some time ago?

Its all so that no one knows who is/has told asada the truth.

That player would be lynched.

Hang on, If I had been accused of wrongdoing I would want to come out and state my case. I would vociferously defend my innocence.

Why would the 34 want to remain anonymous? (Remember Slobbo has already outed them.)

If I accused you of stealing my budgy smugglers would you

a: Go to ground and hide or

b: Defend yourself vociferously. or

c: Get an injunction against Jims Mowing or

d: a & c?

The EFC and players have gone a & c.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
