I've got a screen shot of The Age website from that day and is says "James Hird removed as Essendon coach" beneath that is says Caroline Wilson.

If a journo thinks something is true, I'd rather them stick their neck out than qualify everything with verbiage to cover their bum.

It is easy to write that it is expected (rumoured/likely/....) that Paul Roos will be sacked by the MFC Board tomorrow and a randomly selected Demonland poster will replace him.

On the other hand if a sub-editor turns speculation into fact then the journo has a right to feel hard done by.

More likely Caro was wrong and desperate for a story given Adrian Anderson was no longer leaking her stories and keeping her ahead of the game.

but i was saying (if my memory serves me right) that she also said it unequivocally in the body of the article

Caro is pure and simple an investigative reporter who happens to specialize in the AFL. And what a fertile field it is for her! She does not play favorites, she is just interested in the story, and rightly or wrongly the MFC over the last five years have provided some of the juiciest stories around. Get used to it. Hopefully, in future they will be about success and not failure: either way, Caro will be at the barricades ferreting for the best story. All power to her...she is an immensely talented journalist. Thankfully they are not all like that [censored] Mark Robinson.

I reckon Essendon would be waiting for Hurd to be removed by the AFL so then there is no payout on their behalf.

I'm not sure under what mechanism the AFL could sack Hird. He is employed by the EFC, they can only sack him, although obviously the peak body has considerable influence over their underlings (i love saying that about the EFC!)

Sure her father was a long time President of Richmond and she makes no secret of the team she supports, but I certainly have seen no favouritism in terms of reporting, in fact some of her most biting commentary has been about the Tigers. I know who I prefer between her and mark [censored] robinson

Well to be more specific, I think the Hird court case will be tossed out within two weeks, and he may well be forced to resign as a result - this time at last by Essendon.

The findings from the AFL Tribunal will I think be handed down within a month of the season starting, and l am expecting them to be favorable to the players which will allow them to continue playing, with probably several of the coaches including Hird receiving longish sentences (maybe a couple of years each). This will be unacceptable to ASADA who will appeal it, l assume through the AFL appeal mechanisms. They will then probably confirm the AFL Tribunal findings, but this could take another month, although as it is in the control of the AFL they clearly have an interest in accelerating the process.

I believe the decision is being handed down at 2.15 tomorrow

Jack Nial from the Age has reported that players remain on suspension while appeal is in process regardless of who appeals. No idea if that is right - just what he reported:

"The prospect of appeals from either ASADA or the players if they lose is another complication. Under the rules, the players would be unable to play during an appeal period if they were challenging suspensions."
