I'm sorry, Gmax, but part of me wants to keep it purely to teach young Demons that sometimes busy clubs should have busy emblems.

Those 'signatures' are the rules of the game, written by the bloke who founded this game, concurrently with founding this club.

The flame is taking ownership of the city that hosted the Olympics - an ownership some would love us to continue. It is our name...

The southern cross is supposed to be an elegant shout out to the indigenous, the trident is the demons.

You don't have to like it, but know what is going on in there and why others take some level of pride in the clubs achievements, no matter how ancient.

Huh? The Olympics were 60 years ago, heaps of cities have hosted the Olympics, who gives a stuff? The flame is the stupidest part of the logo.

I also don't see how the southern cross represents our indigenous when it is something relevant to all in the southern hemisphere. It too is stupid and should go.

I dont hate the logo for corporate purposes but wouldn't care if it were discarded for the monogram. However for marketing/branding purposes and selling merchandise to kids we should have something with the Demon. The current kids merchandise with the shield looks terrible and lame.

You mean there are kids who are interested in buying MFC gear Dr.

Seriously I agree with you

Kids have the merchandise purchased for them more likely.

Certainly the case with my extended family.

Dr we had a flame in the shape of an M in one of our previous logos, Demons are linked to hell/fire etc and Melbourne as a city and the MCG has a link to the olympics so I think it is not the stupidest part of the logo.

I am happy with the logo to be used for corporate functions and letterheads etc, but the most imortant thing we must retain is teh MFC monogram

The flame is actually the eternal flame, the represent the players who lost their lives at war.

Received club email today marketing new gear. Wondered if this is our new logo? Has anyone seen it before?

Not sure what to think:

- Much of the new gear is a light grey.

- The Demon looks a bit too 'happy'...would prefer an agro looking demon especially on adult gear.

- Could be my screen colours but some garments look black and grey with not much navy blue and read.

Will wait till I see one in real life but atmo I can't say I like it.

Edit: just noticed the 'V' which looks like a VFL logo...bit more confused now...

That is a retro logo. There have always been a few bits of merchandise that carry that and the old VFL logo. That Demon was used in the 80s.

Thnx paha...I wonder why they brought it back and with all that grey, on adult gear?

To me it just confuses our (i'll use that dreaded 'B' word) 'branding' more than what it already is. Would prefer to see it gone, myself: we no longer play in the VFL and we don't use that blue or that red...it just isn't us...no one under 35 would recognise it...

Looks more like an old USAF WWII bomber crew logo worn on their leather jackets. Since ripped off by outlaw bikers. The outline is like seen on old Grizzly jackets. A step in the right direction. Should be on the back. Edited by america de cali

With licensing, the club will get certain items made through (in our case New Balance) such as jumpers and some polo shirts.

Most items are made for all clubs by other companies who have a license to make the product for all eighteen clubs who get a royalty from sales. The clubs will get some say in what the products look like but most of the time it will be controlled centrally by the AFL who approve designs for all teams.

To me, this jumper looks like something that has been licensed through the AFL.

WOW, what happens if we want to present/market ourselves in a certain way - so the AFL would just ride slip shod all over us...couldn't see Eddie or Kochie putting up with that!!

Honestly I don't know what he looks like.

Marvin perhaps?

Each club will have brand guidelines, my point is as long as the product adheres to those guidelines they don't need to be involved in the approval of every single product, the AFL do it on their behalf.

Anything is better than our current logo.

I won't buy any new merchandise with it on it.

If I wanted something with the southern cross on it, I'd get a "f... Off we're full" bumper sticker to put on the bogan ute that I don't have.

Sadly things in society change over time, and the southern cross is more representative of small mindedness disguised as patriotism, than honor of the great country we live in and the constellation that sits above us.

you wouldn't buy any merch just because of a little logo.....wow....a bit precious?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
