MELBOURNE has emerged as the front-runner to secure the services of delisted Port Adelaide midfielder Ben Newton.

Newton is regarded as a talented player who has been starved of opportunities to consolidate a place in a star-studded line-up at Port Adelaide.

Have no idea about Newson but i would be interested in Stevenson!

If he was offered a contract by Port he's probably not as a big a dud as all the delistees on offer.

The fact that Geelong reportedly were interested during the trade period also suggests he is considered to have some upside.

you mean the team that is also reportedly interested in Blease?

But i do agree, he does have some upside...plus, we need depth in the midfield anyways

If he is 'delisted' then he can sign with anyone on Nov 1.

If he 'listed' into the second list lodgement then he will go to the draft.

From that confused article - I am not to certain what he is doing.

Considering that Port were keen to keep him and offered a contract and the article says he'll head to the draft you have to think he's not eligible as a delisted free agent. But you're right in that it's vague

MFC should offer the kid a 2 year contract. Bypass our pick 53, and select him in PSD # 2. Solid, left footer, 22yo, ready to go. He was very unlucky not to make Port's finals team. Emergency on 5-6 times in last half of 2014.

Another one, like Frost, who St Kilda would and should take ahead of Membrey.

would? No, trust me mate, they are taking Membrey 100% Also does this mean Geelong have to choose between Newton or Blease?

Highlights look good enough to get regular midfield time, would be confused if we don't approach.

That he's headed for the national draft not PSD tells me he doesn't want to play for us :(

Well Geelong have pick 55. We have pick 53. We've been playing nice for a long time. If he's the best available and still there well welcome to Melbourne.

Is he not a delisted FA? What's stopping any club from signing him?

I think it's because he was offered a contract and he rejected it.

The Why would he not sign a contract with Port due to no game time only to want to go to Geelong? We can give him plenty of midfield time. Something doesn't add up

Had his unofficial biography released today. Mentioned some drug and alcohol issues but apparently he has got over them.

Bert and Pattie must really be hoping he can make a go of it this time.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
