Patrick Dangerfield

According to his manager, he'll be playing at Adelaide next year. Now with Beams going to Brissy, who does that leave us with?

Picks 2 and 3 in a shallow draft which goes to about pick 4, with the swans no hope of doing any deal of note without one of them.

Our worst case is we get Bradshaw and the tall forward Mc Cartlin? Is that so bad?

ET. I dare say Beams was ONLY ever going to the Lions. What slowed it down was the tenacity of the Pies in exacting what they deemed a suitable reward. Well played Filth. Got to admire them in that. Beams was never coming to us so in that sense we cant miss out on what wasn't.

Re Dangermouse. 24hrs is a long time in footy , so 48 more than allows for T's to get crossed and I's dotted. His manager is just playing the game..... we all are.

would the club consider a deal as easy as 1, 2, 3

take a former #1 package with picks 2 and 3 for Danger their picks #10 and #31 ?

just brainstorming it really :)

I dont think Trenners was part of any Danger deal. I suspect the Crows are holding out for more but we have put a limit on the deal given the free agency situation. In all deals there is a point at which you move on and if the pieces fall into place so be it.

Just a flying it up the flagpole case here really but what I see the club wanting is an absolute gun of a midfielder and the chance at maybe a decent pick at the draft but around where they think a Lever type might go.

The picks etc are just a means to an end. If we accomplish our goal..we've done ok.its for others to possibly continue the narrative over this or that.

The goal of trade week is to better you list and /or position in draft if thats your direction. Its not our direction I feel . Ours is to get more ready to go now types to impact the team starting round 1 2015.

All will be revealed in the coming days without doubt.

Petracca and Brayshaw.

Easy.

No chance. GWS have picks 4 and 7, they'll offer that to the Saints. Suits both teams perfectly. Saints want quantity over quality, and they still secure a key tall with those picks. GWS want quality over quantity, because they have to cull their list. They'll take Petracca and run.

Forget about Petracca, it ain't happening.

I'm super disappointed about this trade period....

Well it's our damn fault if we were dumb enough to put all our energy into a ridiculous pipe dream like Dangerfield, while ignoring dozens of excellent and far easier targets scattered across the league.

Aren't GWS trading one of those picks for Griffen?

Seriously guys, chill.

The big deals often come at the end.

I still think we have a big fish on the line.

Didn't we put the cue in the rack with about 4 days to go last year?

Leaving everything to the last possible second seems a rather bizarre trade strategy. What benefit does it achieve except allowing everything to fall through at the last minute and leave you with no time to trade players (gives no time for medicals/facilities tours/consultation with footy departments) or time to formulate a backup plan?

I just fear the pick 12/Trengove fiasco has completely buggered up some apparent master plan, and left us with no leverage to do anything. It's also given other clubs ample time to muscle in on any territory we were gaining, potentially undermining any trades we had in the works. Case in point: Bulldogs now making a play for Frost.

Highly doubt it if Boyd ends up going to Bulldogs. That changed everything and was completely out of the blue. If anything GWS will want Griffen & pick 6 in exchange for Boyd.

Have no idea how those two clubs will sort that one out, but if we were targetting a GWS player I'd assume they'll tell us to rack off now. Yet another reason why this "strategy" of leaving everything until the last minute is fraught with danger and politics when 17 other clubs are all fighting to get ahead.

Relax, Trengove put us back a bit as have Collingwood. The big trade may not happen but I fail to see how pick 2 and 3 is a bad result for us.

The big trades always seem to come late and take everyone by surprise, so there is time yet and it may be us.

The thing I don't understand is that didn't Roos say that the fans are sick of waiting. So why would be take pick 2 and 3 into the draft...? Surely something big will happen in the next couple of days otherwise I'm going to be realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly [censored].

I'd feel a lot better if we at least had Lamumba and Frost secured. Colonwood are [censored] everyone around, us most of all with the difficult Clark situation, which has seen North start moving in on Lamumba. And now Bulldogs are muscling in on Frost because they have a surplus of late picks to offer the Giants, while we have nothing left at the top end of the draft.

Almost wonder if this is just sabotage from Colonwood to ruin our entire draft strategy.

Exactly, this sudden "we'll just take those picks to the draft" reeks of "oops, everything fell apart." In which case you have to ask, what the hell were we thinking put all our eggs in one basket? You can't honestly tell me there weren't genuinely good fringe players at Sydney or Hawthorn looking for more opportunities, or players at Adelaide/Freo/West Coast/Brisbane/GWS desperate to come back to Victoria, that we could easily have swayed over with the lure of Roos/$$$?

Have never wanted to be proven wrong so badly in my life, but...

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
