He'd struggle to be in the Hawks best 22. Gets the ball a lot but provides little run and simply isn't damaging enough. Great midfielders influence a match no matter how bad a team is. If was as great as many here think he'd have taken matches like Brissie, Bulldogs, Saints by the balls. He doesnt. I really love Jonesy and want nothing more than for him to earn a premiership trophy, but hes no superstar. It takes watching a lot of footy to know this.

Having him as your best player (by far) is *not* a good thing.

if after watching a lot of footy you come to the conclusion he would not make the Hawks 22, don't watch anymore you are simply wasting your time, you will never be any good at it.

Finds the footy, good in traffic, makes smart decisions, with excellent skills. What a dud.

It's gobsmacking that people could still underrate this bloke. The only string he needs to add to his bow is goals, though he's usually too busy doing work all over the ground and getting to every contest.

He's not a superstar, but he's a rolled gold A grader who absolutely, unequivocally, should've been in the squad of 40.

Jones is very good, he has taken stride after stride. If only many other would follow suit. He's a keeper and a blessing for us. He didnt make AA

Thats not a slight on him. Most should move on, especially those making nongs of themselves.

Strangely I'd expect Nathan to think...what do I need to do better....and then go out next season and do it. Lets appreciate that instead of bemoaning subjectives !!

Which midfielder would you drop out of the squad of 40 for him?

Ward and Jones would be a 50/50 call.

Burgoyne is lucky that he looks good while he does it. He's not ahead of Jones at all.

Ellis I can only assume is there as a HBF, despite Malceski and Brodie Smith already being there. There's no way in hell he's above Jones as a Mid!

Said a while back, we overrate all our players due to our familiarity with the names.

Reality is, our list is THAT bad.

And Mr Paul Roos said only 12 months ago that the list really isn't THAT bad.

Wrong Mr Roos.

Posted

When it is all said and done Jones is a good player and one of the top three at the MFC he is the captain and has won B and F's

But the experts have picked the top 40 players and he is not one of them.

We can all beat our chests but in their view he is not as good as most at the MFC think but we do have a habit of over rating our players.

These are AFL Rankings

The same AFL rankings that have him as the 104th player in the overall standings.

Stats aren't everything.

Love the bloke, is easily our best player, clearly our heart, but the cold hard fact is he isn't up to the same standard as the midfield greats of the AFL. He's not far off, but if you think he's on the same level as Pendelbury, Ablett, Selwood, Dangerfield and the like then you're just not looking at it without your MFC glasses on.

Those of you in Melbourne should burn AFL house, Just wear a Collingwood jumper they will never know it was you.

even if the offenders wore Collingwood gear, its likely they'd blame us anyway...lol...

The massive void in treatment between us and them is truly amazing!! I can't believe how the AFL manage to hide their favourable nods and winks... The bloody Magpies, Bombers, Blues, Hawks, and Swans are all protected clubs, who along with AFL control what happens behind closed doors... while clubs like like us, the Doggies, saints, and kangaroos all wear the shape end of the sword... This is a small public thing, but Why the hell!! Does the AFL need to ring Eddie, to approve Port Adelaide's finals guernsey? Farout!! What the hell does this decision, have to do with Collingwood? can't recall hearing about them asking us, if it's ok for Port to use our yoke design in their clash jumper?

The way the AFL have craddled the Bombers, through the ASADA inquires is crazy... I'm not really surprised, but its still shocking to watch... The bombers straight out cheated!!! with some sneaky corrupt AFL nods and winks!! How they have manage to squash this is truly amazing really... The AFL are in on it and they know exactly what took place the investigations are a joke... Nothing will happen now, because the right people have been payed off and they are all just waiting until it goes away...

Funny how Collingwood aren't top four anymore, now that their players aren't on High Altitude Arozona anymore... Hmmm... I think the AFL have put most of the big nods away, until the heat die's down...

Personally i will always be drawn to the Dees and hope they win, even though deep down i know our game is corrupted... unless we can make big money and draw big crowds, we will forever be merely making up the numbers... Also... i think its too late to stop it, the corruption is just way to deep and to pry it out would mean we'd have to break down the whole thing and start again...

This is ridiculous. Jonesy should be in the AA squad.

explain the ridicule ? or is it just your disappointment ?

Who said he is on that level? Completely irrelevant to a discussion about whether he should make the squad of FORTY. Is Ellis a great? Is Ward a great?

His omission doesn't surprise me so it doesn't actually bother me as much as hearing our own supporters stil downplay his ability because of the jumper he wears.

If he isn't good enough to make the squad, what more outside of moving mountains does Jonesy need to do?

Not surprise. Shane Woewodin couldn't get a gig in 2000 when he won a Brownlow. Selectors have always ignored Dees players. Still stumped as to how Frawley ever got named

Is Frawley a Dees player???
