GAMEDAY - Round 23

Just get it over. 2014 in some ways has been far worse than the 2 previous years.

The excuses we heard before were just that.

The "problems" were addressed. & still the players have shown little respect for the jumper and members.

Since Round 13 it has been diabolical. Kicking 3-4 goals in a full game on a dry ground.

Fcuk That.

Let's not get silly here.

It is a slight improvement but let's focus on the adjective that was used there: slight. We win those games against the Lions and the Giants then I would say we would have won as many games as I would have expected us to. That we haven't is majorly disappointing.

We won just as many games in 2012 but were busted open many more times and weren't in half as many games. Plus keep in mind that we weren't a chance in most of those games. Keep in mind as well that we basically had two higher level VFL teams (albeit one of them had Gary Ablett) playing in 2012 . Three of those 2012 victories went without saying.

Last year, as far as statistics and how many games we were actually in at three quarter time, is incomparable this year. Until the Lions game, I usually enjoyed going to the footy as we were usually in it up till three quarter time. After then, not so much however!

Paul Roos should not be immune from criticism. However, he has at least proven he can coach. He has done it all before. A lot of the group from before have been here through three full time coaching regimes: Bailey, Neeld and now Roos. Despite Neeld's abominable people skills, we can't say that it was all the coach's fault especially since we have bought in a premiership winning coach and one of the most experienced coaches in the caper in George Stone. Keep in mind Neil Craig has as much experience as Roos (not as much success though) and he basically had the same thing happen to him that Roosy had happen. Slight up tick in competitiveness over a short period followed by tiring and apathy which leads to annihilation.

Roos was right. The list just isn't good enough. There needs to be major surgery done to it. Whatever moves that are made now cannot be made out of spite. We need to get the most our of what we got and not just 'sack' everyone. The class of 2008-2010 will never get us where we need to be. We shouldn't push them out in the space of a year but they need to be moved on over the next bit.

conversely the opposition kick straight in the 4 games we won and we could have won zero games

it was what it was

you got the slight bit right

however you could argue that the last third of the season saw us go backwards

all in all a pretty tish year

what do you guys reckon are the chances we will kick more than 8 goals today?

Last game of the year, anything turns up.

Sometimes the players have a hefty bet for the goin away party and invest bigtime in a silly bet.

OK - who has what on the menu tonight?

Mine is curry and rice - home made korma and rogan josh. Aperitifs have been a few beers and now moved onto the wine. Decided that the game being at Etihad, I'm better off not being on full alert for the broadcast.

Heading to my favourite restaurant in Fremantle to celebrate my 30th. Then, like the sucker I am, I'll come home and watch the recorded game. At least I'll be able to fast forward it. My record so far was the GWS game, I watched it in 4 1/2 minutes, longest 4 1/2 minutes ever.

Well I chose not to go tonight and I'm glad I did.

Can watch at home and choose to go out at half time if this turns out as I expect it will.

Thank god this season ends tonight. I think I speak for a lot of us when I say it's been emotionally exhausting!

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
